Tomato blight!

That's what it is! I'm a novice gardener and thought it was maybe just too much rain. They're outdoors.

Can I put them in the garden bin or will that contaminate.
Anybody got any other green tomato recipes. We're not chutney fans.

I think I saw some while looking for the chutney one.

I bring my green tomatoes in and lay them out on trays in the conservatory. They seem to ripen up ok, and I made lots of pasta sauce with them last year. Don’t feel you have to do everything with green ones, they will ripen up hopefully.

I would burn them . It's caused by a fungus and the spores can spread if you put them in your compost bin.
We had the disease on tomatoes and potatoes a few times when we had a veg. garden in France. Brought on by a period of warm damp weather.

Is this when they go black?
I am also a novice and thought I was doing so well with my abundant plant. Now tge tomatoes are turning shiny and black.

*Ellianne", it looks like blight. Do the leaves have sunken brown and black patches on them? Blight is the bane of my life. This year, I sterilised all my pots with Jeyes Fluid, Washed the inside and floor of the greenhouse with it and hung a net curtain across the door to keep out airborne spores. And STILL the dreaded blight struck! Luckily I had already harvested a lot of tomatoes (I sow them in January and bring them on indoors) so I only had a few losses.

If you grow your tomatoes from seed, try a blight resistant variety. I've grown Ferline (Large beefy tomatoes) and San Antonio, small plum tomatoes, and they're ok so far. Seeds are expensive though. They do well outdoors in a sunny spot.

Ive been out and picked all the ones that still look edible. I can't have bonfires where I am to get rid of the plants.

I've just read you can Illte, but not anywhere near potato plants because they are cousins.
