We have a space that this would be perfect for but have no idea what it is. It's in next door's garden but we can't ask as the house is empty now. If anyone knows what it is, do you know if it will flower yearly? We've only been here 40 years and I've only just noticed it blush.

Looks like a weigela to me.

Sorry, I pressed Post too soon.
Ours flowers in the early spring each year but I notice that it currently has flower buds as though it's about to produce a second display. Not seen that before. smile

An azalea?

I agree with Scribbles. Weigelia. Probably. Its been a funny year and several things which should flower early summer have thrown up a few more flowers. Can you take crafty cuttings?

I thought azalea loopyloo

Thank you. We have a couple of azaleas and they don't look like that but I daresay there are different types. I will investigate further.

Now there's an idea Nfk. I just might risk it under cover of semi darkness!

I think the decider would be a close up of a leaf.

Or break off a sprig and take it to your local garden centre. They should know.

Thanks all.

Use a plant spotter app easier than going to a garden centre unless you have one close by

Thanks BlueBelle I didn't know there was such a thing. I will have a look.

BlueBelle totally agree, I use the PlantSnap app and I regularly use it to identify plants. I also use BritishTrees, which is very helpful for hedgerow growth.

I sure it's a weigela too.

Ours flowered earlier in the year and is having a second flowering now.

The leaves and flowers do vary as there are several types.

Not a Weigela leaf form. There is an Azalea called Encore that repeat flowers. It looks like your photo.

Kate1949 Mon 21-Sep-20 18:07:54

We'll I am so pleased thank you. I downloaded an app and it tells me it's an Alpen rose, a species of azalea.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 21-Sep-20 18:28:25

Rhododendron or azalea. It’s flower buds will sit there until next spring
