Evergreen climbers,again ?

Oh, lovely!
We bought a bush earlier this year that has berries which apparently the birds love but there were no takers.
(I can't remember the name of it without going out in the dark and damp to look at the label.)

Well, Callistemon planted them yesterday, now hardly a berry on them!

Watched a blackbird through the sitting room window really enjoying the berries. So, in a way, I'm quite chuffed!

Just back from the garden centre with 2 pyracantha and a euonymus.

The new border will have to be done in stages, but a Daphne is definitely part of the plan Chewbacca

I think tanith was talking to me, if you're a bit Harmonypuss, not recommending a callistemon which is indeed a bush.
Mine is flowering again at the moment which is unusual. It must think it's Down Under.

We have to get rid of our ivy. Lovely, variegated but rampant.

I spent most of yesterday ripping out the ivy that's crept in from my neighbour's garden. What about a Daphne Phoenix? The smell is heavenly and they're not a vigorous, invasive plant. Or a variegated climbing choisya? They also flower and smell lovely.

Pyracantha are thorny and need to be cut back every month or so.
How about a cotoneaster? You have the berries and the stems spread flat against the surface, like ribs (hard to explain lol). They are slow growing and I just trim mine back as and when they need it. I have them growing against a fence and also a wall.

OP.... don't go with ivy, your neighbours will hate you for it! I bought my house 19yrs ago and next-door had some ivy trained up our party fence, it's broken through 5 fences since then, overtaken my honeysuckle, jasmine and climbing roses which are trained up the adjoining wall and no matter what we've done to it since I moved in (chopping it back, pouring creosote over it, burning it etc) it's still behaving like something out of 'The Day off the Triffids"

I have a variegated pyracantha on a fence. It's prettier and slower growing than the green type.

I regret having a Pyrocantha as a hedge. Throughout the growing season it has to be cut back about every 2 weeks, meaning that I get few flowers or berries. I have to be meticulous picking up the clippings in case a cat walks on the lethal thorns.
My favourite plant against a fence is a creamy Euonymus. It is not just a climber, but supports itself well. I have some as bushes too. It is a bit slow to get going but once established forms a lovely evergreen covering.

Pyracantha has been the Bain of my life this summer. The 2 ( other than mine) gardens that I care for have them. I still have a small scar on my arm from one of them.
One of the gardens has it under the front window as a burglar
deterrent. I defy anyone to get though that.
Phoenix. You will regret the day if you ever plant it.

jusnoneed I've put an evergreen clematis (Winter Beauty) in one of the new huge planters on the other side of the garden.

I like the idea of the pyrocanthus for the berries.

I have an evergreen clematis on the side wall of the house, the winter flowers are small bell shaped and cream. then has fluffy seed heads.

It's easily cut back with hedge shears (we have even done it with electric trimmer when it got too big once) and we have sparrows nest in there most years.

I've already planted a couple of honeysuckle on the other side of the garden, and am waiting for 3 climbing roses for that side.

The garden is South facing, and the fence in question is on the West side.

I’ve had a climbing hydrangea for many years. I love it when the fresh green leaves come out and again in the autumn when it turns glorious. The rest of the time I don’t care for it very much and my flowers don’t seem to last long.

Ive had a climbing hydrangea for over 8 years and I'm still waiting for it to flower!

I wouldn't recommend pyracantha.
It's dangerous stuff! Very spiky.
We have winter flowering jasmine in a fairly sunny spot and a climbing hydrangea on a north facing wall.

Honeysuckle?

Is your jasmine flowering already tanith? Ours usually flowers in January when nothing else does.

The Jasmine is evergreen I’ll take a pic of mine tomorrow to show how pretty it is when in flower.

Climbing hydrangeas like to be cool and shady, so on a fence
Facing North or East. They are easy to take care of and will grab the fence themselves, but! Can get very heavy in time.
What about training a vine along it? Rampant though, again and may pull a fence down.
I would go with rambling roses and climbing roses, not evergreen of course, with a climbing hydrangea that you thin out when needed, and/or Boston ivy.
