Happy to see him but………. I thought my hedgehog should be hibernating long ago although I have read that if there is a food source they can pop out now and then, just find it unusual he still still out and about at this time of year

There are assorted Hedgehog 'hospitals', many on Twitter. Post a question to them.
What I've learnt from them (I live in a block of flats, so unlikely to use this info) is
No hedgehog should be out in the day unless it's ill.
A small hedgehog may be too light to hibernate
If you find a poorly hedgehog, take it to a specialist immediately or a local vet. (Don't put it in your garage)

Hello Shinamae
How lovely that you have a resident Hog.
I'd Google hedgehog rescue, I know that we have a centre near us, they should have lots of advice.

There are "Tiggywinkle" hospitals for wildlife dotted around. It's a free service and they will take in hedgehogs. There'll be a phone number if you're concerned about anything.

I do not see him in the day it is only late at night and like I say I have read on hog forums to keep food out because sometimes they will pop out to have some food:actually nothing should surprise us this year really should it?...??????? I do have a small wildlife garden and also have a pond so I’m looking forward to some frogs in the spring, simple pleasures ☺️

Simple but effective feeding station for hedgehog, the way the bricks are arranged the cats cannot get in....

Yarddoes need a bit of a tidy up!! ?

I love your feeding station! Did you make it yourself? There’s a cat visits our garden and we have had to find ways to keep her off the hedgehog food. We have a resident hedgehog, haven’t seen him recently but they do sometimes come out for food in winter.

Yes made it myself actually that is a new box I bought today from Wilkinsons £4, got my son to cut a hole out put tape around it so there are no sharp edges and then just put the bricks around, gives me a great deal of pleasure, if I see him tonight I will try and get a photo and put on here ???

If you make a station I can more or less guarantee your hog will love feeding from it, also it protects the food from the elements and the cats!! Although I have a pond I don’t want the hedgehog Drinking from that (might fall in and not be able to get out! )so always leave a bowl of fresh water just outside the feeding station...

Brilliant Shinamae!
I will study that properly tomorrow.
My cat is no bother, but my dog is a menace. She wouldn't hurt a fly but is very territorial and barks (a lot) at any visitors to the garden.

And here right on cue is Cedric......☺️
