Can you post a picture (I know it's dark now, perhaps tomorrow!).

Camellia? Mine has flower buds but they take a long time to come out.
The rhodendron which I transplanted from a tub to the border seems to have had flower buds for months too.

It could be a camellia Fennel.
I have several & their buds for this spring have been there for a while now. Depending on the variety it could flower from late Feb to late April.

I don’t think it will be a gardenia because I think they’re tender & not frost-hardy.

Why do the flowers on my camellia go brown after a day?

These are Camellia buds -

I saw a camellia in full bloom the other day!

I have a beautiful Camellia, it flowers early in the year, but the blooms soon fall off before they have died, sometimes they are a little brown around the edges, sometimes the blooms are perfect, Anyone else experience this with their Camellias?

The flower buds can tolerate frost but if the flowers get frosted it’s the morning sun melting the frost too quickly that causes them to brown or drop off. That’s why they are better on a west facing wall so the frost can melt slowly! ?

I too say Camellia. Lilypops mine go a little brown around the edges too. But, I am no greenfingers, unfortunately.

Gelisajams, Ooo mine is on the south facing side of the garden. I may try and move it to west facing. Thank you.

And mine is on the east -facing. just have to wait and see, it's never flowered before.
But this is only the second winter we've been in the house.
Last year i don'y yhonk there were any buds.

Oh dear!
It's in a south facing bed, although it doesn't get the sun until later in the day as it's shielded from the morning sun.
It's not getting moved now, it's very large.

Viburnum Bodnantse Dawn- well know for winter flowering and very fragrant, perhaps.
