Bizarre mutant dandelion

Now I have a mutant dandelion clock

lemongrove yeah, I saw the photos on the Internet of that garden.

The decking, fence and shed have all gone now. None of the wood had ever been treated and the shed was falling down.

Savvy I once saw a tv programme about a house and garden that had been let go ( to put it mildly) and the council eventually recovered ( amongst other things) two vans and three cars, so yours can’t claim the prize for worst overgrown garden ?Still, that shed will come in useful.
Now, about those red triffids....

lemongrove you'd think they were real if you'd seen my garden when I first moved in. At the top of the garden I found decking, a shed and a 6ft fence nobody knew about.

Yup, fasciation is correct. It does happen to other plants too, such as Forsythia and Delphiniums.

My hobby is growing cacti, (have a very large collection in two greenhouses), and this sometimes occurs in certain species, creating what is known as a “crest”. These are usually grafted on to an easier species, and are very popular with some collectors, who will pay large sums of money to obtain them.

Just a freak of nature, really.

I’ve seen fasciation before, it’s not uncommon. If you want to be rid of the dandelion, put salt on it.

Is it’s name Boris? Looks like it needs a haircut.

Fascination can be caused by a drop in temperature - such as we've had this year.
Over the years I've had it in various plants - sometimes producing triple sized flowers - it's not dangerous & sadly revert to normal the next year.

I'd say it's not the mutant dandelion you should be worrying about, rather the mutant bees that will be coming to feed off it... ???

I think this is something called Fasciation. It's just a quirk of nature. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasciation

It's like the funny-shaped veg and tomatoes that you see.

I've actually seen them like this in the past, mutants which appear in many flowers etc. in the world of biology.
I remember seeing double marguerites years ago.

It looks like a double dandelion to me. They occur pretty regularly, and you needn't worry about it.
