Found this in my garden yesterday, I’ve never seen it before and wonder can anybody identify for me please?

It looks like a damsel fly to me. Similar to dragon flies.

Ahhh Great, thank you very much,I do have dragonflies around my pond as well but had not noticed this one before….?

They look stunning when the sun shines on them, iridescent.

Yes Damsel fly, the Larvae are quite something. They climb out of the water onto nearby leaves. They’re quite large, brown and not at all attractive. The Damsel fly emerges from the back.
We had several during last summers hot weather.

There were two of them but one has vanished

Yes that’s it. I expect the second one is now a damsel fly. Beautiful aren’t they? I can’t remember seeing so many, possibly a result of climate change.

Absolutely fascinating but so is most wildlife ?

Have just noticed another two cast off “jackets”of dragonflies around my pond and apparently if you have a few dragonflies around it indicates good water quality. I am so pleased about that because I do not have a pump or anything in my pond it is purely a wildlife pond so I’m happy about that…. I’ll let the plants get on with their jobs of clarifying and oxygenating the water..
