Is it too late to take cuttings from my Hydrangea and some of the beautiful begonias i have in the garden this year. My neighbour expressed an interest in having a hydrangea and i would like to give them a couple of plants next year. The Begonias have been stunning with such beautiful colours and i saw on utube you can propagate from the leaves. I have been so busy in the house and with other things going on in my life that time has slipped away and i never got around to doing this. I intend keeping them inside the house if not too late over winter as greenhouse unheated.

I’ve never taken cuttings from begonias, but from hydrangeas it would still be worth trying, although it would ideally be better in the spring. As they are deciduous the roots won’t grow once the leaves fall off, so a cutting would have about 6 weeks now to establish its roots. If your existing hydrangea is a good size there’s nothing to lose by trying, as the cutting will have a head start next spring then?

Casdon apparently you propagate Begonias from their leaves. I found this out on Utube. I think i will have a go with both i have nothing to loose at the end of the day.

Do you just lay the begonia leaf flat on the soil?
