I have a border between my patio and a gravel area that really needs a revamp. I now have poor sight and sometimes find it difficult to disentangle the weeds from the plants.. I’m not sure whether to go for close planting and ground cover plants in the hope of suppressing the weeds or to spread the plants out so that I know that anything growing in between is a weed. Does anyone have any advice?

I always crowd the plants in and find that is the single best way of keeping weeds down. Any empty space just seems to give the little blighters a head start.

Thank you Scones, that’s helpful.

I crowd the plants in too. No space for weeds to get into. Give them an inch ... it works well as I have no weeds at all in the flower beds. Plenty get into the gravel paths though!

Oh Germanshepherdsmum, I know what you mean about gravel paths! Fortunately the weeds in mine seem to be kept in check by regular applications of boiling water.
