At our ladies group today one brave lady brought all materials needed for this. Much mess and hilarity.
I chose narcissus and got mine home in one piece. Put it in the airing cupboard. Is that too warm for the bulb?
Also, how often do I need to water it? Plus any other advice.

Bulbs need a period of cold and dark conditions first, then bring them into the warm and light when you can see the tip of the bulbs coming through Fennel, I put mine in the garage initially, and check them for shoots each week.

I think they need to be kept in a cool place and when they start shooting put in a sunny but cool place.

Grrr just lost my post!

So briefly...
I am following a thread on Mumsnet, growing Paper White for Christmas.
It's on the poncing thread in the Christmas section (sorry can't do links)

My paper white bulbs are in the garage atm, dark and cold.

According to MN the bulbs should be brought out Remembrance Sunday .

A tall glass jar required (to support the long stems).

Place some gravel and then some stones the bottom of jar.a

The stones are to support the bulbs

Put the bulbs root down between stones, but on top of the gravel.

The gravel is watered just touching the roots, but not the bulbs.

Now here's the thing
It is water mixed with gin.

I will have to come back with quanties.

My mother used to keep the bowls of bulbs under her bed and did not water them for ages . I hate the smell of hyacinths could not have them in my house or garden .

Oh, I love the smell of hyacinths.

Takes me back to being about 5 years old, at primary school we always had hyacinth bulbs growing in a pot on the nature table.

My hyacinths and narcissus are still in the bags in which I bought them. ?. I think I’m aiming for Valentine’s Day flowers now.

A friend and I grow Paperwhites every year but we can never decide if we like the scent or not. Sometimes they smell sweetly and at other times, they smell of cat’s wee. ?
