Cystus has dry up buds

They like hot, dryish conditions. Have you had a lot of wind which would dry the buds out?

Yes - definitely lots of wind! I wonder if I should take off the dried buds and see if it will produce some new ones?

It's worth a try as it might realise it needs to produce more flowers.

I had one which was wonderful for years, in the wrong place (semi shade, sheltered) but flowered profusely every year. Then it suddenly died.
I replaced it with another which didn't do well so I moved that one to a sunny spot where it struggled along before giving up.

Very odd, as they seem to do well in this area.

They like very dry, rocky soil, apparently, dislike wind.
Perhaps it is too damp?

I would take the dead buds off too. It may not help to produce new flowers but won’t do any harm.
We also had one which flowered profusely for years like Callistemon’s, then suddenly died last winter despite mild weather. The other two are doing well. I wonder if they’re not particularly long lived.

I read the title as cystitus has dried up buds, and wondered just which buds? I'll get my coat.

In Portugal on the rocky coast, acres of cystus (rock rose) grow. It is very rocky, dry and sun-baked with thin poor soil. It can be windy. Perhaps you are being too kind to it?

I've just grown two of these from cuttings, and both have dried up buds, so I will remove and hope they flourish. Both still in pots.

Buds are off now so fingers crossed - the flowers that are there are beautiful.
