The leaves on next door's beech hedge are covered with tiny white flies and the leaves are all sticky - could it be a plague of little sap sucking aphids?

Every evening we have quite a cloud of tiny flying insects in the garden, I thought they were gnats. Yesterday a couple landed near me and they are white fly, I've never known such a large amount.
Some plants do look sticky.

Just been on a walk and noticed all the leaves on nearby horse chestnut trees are covered with a sticky shiny residue. Also noticed the same when I was weeding y’day.
Never seen this before…Google says it’s something to do with honeydew secreted by aphids….
Could it be due to climate change? It’s been very hot here in West Yorkshire and we have had no rain for 4/5 weeks.

My car has it too I thought it was just dust till I ran my fingers over it and no the dust is stuck to the car. I never have it cleaned but I don’t think I’ve got the stamina to get that all off it’s very sticky.

There was a thread on Mumsnet the other day about plagues of aphids leaving a sticky residue everywhere, including on cars, washing lines etc. They excrete a sticky substance (honeydew) on which sooty moulds can grow - yuck.

I think aphids too - probably together with ants. Are ants running up the tree trunks? We haven't had rain for ages here, so nothing to wash it away. On a gentle breeze, the little drops of expelled sugary aphid 'liquid' will end up everywhere.

I think not. It is the whole garden which is quite large.
