Recommendation - I need a hosepipe

Indeed.

Cheap hoses won't run a decent drip or sprinkler system. Watering gardens well requires very good hoses as does a Karcher.

We've a Karcher pressure washer for garden pavers. We ordered extra long 'their hose' to use with.

All other hoses are really heavy Everflow.

We've underground rain water tanks, grey water tanks, and a canal - our water must be pumped - free with no quantity restrictions.

My SO uses an expandable hose to extend the reach of his pressure washer when he needs to clean the hen house, about 60m from the tap. It works well.

Thompson and Morgan have a stainless steel expandable flexi hose - a bit like a shower spray, which could be good. It comes in 25ft length amongst others and is guaranteed for 12 months. It’s under£30. Could be worth a look.

We have a very large garden, 120 feet x 60 feet and the vegetable plot is right at the far end of the garden. I have a hose running up the garden from near the tap to the start of the veg patch that has been there for nearly 25 years and is now covered in earth for most of its route. I then have another long hose I connecct to it at the veg patch end that will get to all parts of the veg growing area and the green house and another attached to the tap that can be used to water containers when needed, including my culinary herbs, and is attached to the hose heading for the veg garden when needed.

All this needs long heavy duty sturdy hoses. My new hozelock hose meets all these requirements. I hadn't realised what a difference there was in hose quality and function until this year's problems.

I bought an expandable one with brass fittings and wish I'd bought it years ago. It's so light and never kinks, a breeze to set up and put away. My unwieldy old hose and reel went straight outside for any takers.

Like Casdon I bought a new hose last year which was rather expensive but has a 40yr guarantee. As I am in my late 70's I taped the receipt to the inside of the box and, as it will probably outlive me, told my son that he will be able to get the cost or a replacement if he has problems with it. I would add it is a Hozelock stretchy one and am absolutely delighted with it - no problems with it at all.

I believe the XHose is a expanding type which I already have and it's far too long and not sure it would be suitable for the pressure washer.

Do you remember the name of the hose you bought with the guarantee?
Havelock reviews from some purchasers said the hose kinked which put me off that make.

this is a job I do once a year, I pay for my water and I most certainly would not use a hose where there is a ban.
I also save grey water from showering the kitchen, running taps to hot and bathing and consider myself very water aware.

To add, my BIL has one of these and says it’s good.

One of the many perks of living in Wales welbeck. - we aren’t short of water.
Like Monica’s my hose has a guarantee, it’s 30 years so I’m expecting it will last longer than I will!

Mine comes with a 25 year guarantee and is so thick, it would be very difficult indeed to kink or flatten it. It is green with thin yellow stripes and cost £50 for a 30m hose.

No hosepipe ban in my area. I use my hose almost entirely for watering my large vegetable garden and the green house that grows only fruit and veg. I do not use a sprinkler. I only water crops twice a week. For the last month, there has been torrential rain every 3 days so I have had no need to use it, other than in the green house.

I consider using a hose to irrigate areas growing crops to be an entirely legitimate and justifiable use of a hose.

I had the same problem with cheap hoses and bought Hoselock, but it was just as bad for kinking as cheap ones. There are some that have a type of reinforcement but I haven't seen them recently. Some older ones seem to be better! Maybe look online.

I’ve bought a new one this year, it’s a Hozelok Ultimate. It’s light and kink resistant, I’m really pleased with it - my only complaint is it’s very bright yellow, almost dayglo.

We bought a cheap hose online to replace one we had had for decades but had started to keep flattening and kinking. We thought a hose is a hose is a hose. We were wrong, it was kinking and flattening from day one.

We then went to a garden centre and paid full price for a Hozelock hose, other reputable makes are available.

Just go to a garden centre and buy a hose with a known brand on it, and which isn't dirt cheap. You are unlikely to go wrong.
