My name is on the allotment list

I had one for 15 years karmalady gave it up as we went to live in Françe where I created one for a friend.
I now help my friend with his, mainly growing for him as he lives in a flat, advising and looking after it when he’s away.

Have you investigated the possibility of joining a group allotment, karmalady?

I joined my local U3a allotment group two years ago and have now become Group Leader. We share all the work, decision making and produce. Allotments are jolly hard work when you are older. I definitely couldn’t manage one on my own now.

Or sometimes it’s quicker to get half a plot

Sometimes privately owned allotments ( we have some in our village) are easier to rent because they have become too infirm to use them.
Someone I know has just taken on a small allotment patch, by asking around the village.

I have an allotment in Cornwall and our waiting lists are from 18 months to two years. It's a council-run site (120 plots) and we can nominate associate members to help us: my sons are both associates. We only have half-plots but are able to apply for a second one once you have an allotment. For me my allotment is a lifeline as I love being among plants and working the soil.
