I haven't cut my back lawn for 5 wks and i am surprised at the flowers that are there. Ive been away this week so was going to cut it today along with trimming shrubs but ive seen numerous butterflys coming and going so im going to leave it for now and let the butterflys have fun.

I love to see grass like that. My local council has now started only mowing a strip alongside roads and on roundabouts. As long as road signs are visible it looks so much nicer and must be more beneficial for wildlife.

I saw on the web that they are telling us not to cut the grass until after July to give the wild flowers time to grow as they are important to the bees. Also it says not to cut trees or large bushes until after the end of July as the birds are nesting.

I have a massive Lilac tree that has lots of birds nests in it and it really needs cutting as it has grown this year past the telephone lines. I will wait until the leaves fall and then have it trimmed to 5 ft.

If you have seen butterflies it might be worth checking out the butterfly survey which is on at the moment. I have only seen one all ‘summer’.

I was going to mow mine later but as it looks like yours tanith I think I’ll leave it.

I have quite a big area of grass and have left some fair-sized patches unmown. It looks (I think) as if it’s done on purpose rather than just been neglected.

I noticed a front garden lawn near me this morning. It had a neatly mown border with a central rectangle left uncut. It was beautiful and didn't look at all untidy. My front grass is only postage stamp size, but I think I might give it a try, although it could be a bit late this year for the full range of wild flowers.

Nice to know others are trying it too, an extended ‘no mow May’ 😀 means I’ve got more time to sit and read too 😂

I've left my back garden uncut for two months now, and it's looking so pretty with various wild flowers. Clover, dandelions, buttercups, some little purple things, nice grasses. And so many bees and butterflies.

For a few years now I have left a large patch of my back garden uncut until August. Every year the diversity of flowers increases and it looks beautiful for about 8 weeks. However, it is now beginning to look a little scruffy, but there are plenty of seedheads which look lovely when dried and brought indoors.
The only downside is that it likes to self-seed in other parts of the garden!

We get mainly dandelions and oxalis. Sometimes wild iris. All nuisances, especially the oxalis which I loathe. The iris things are hard to get rid off unless you pull them out within a week or so. I haven’t seen any daisies in years , they seem to have disappeared along with sparrows.

I have just taken delivery of some micro clover, I am aiming to have a clover lawn next year in my little garden.

Earlier in the year we did sow some white clover down my dads massive allotment, also there's the red variety coming up now.

Bikergran
I love red clover. I transplant to wherever there’s a bald patch in the garden.

Oh I meant to take a pic today of the clover, actually I notice it is now more purple and because I had to mow the grass(we have to keep it tidy as it is an allotment) I mowed it into a love heart shape smile

My daughter has ordered some of the red clover as well.
