Will it work for a water feature if it's porous?

Good point! Perhaps with a liner? Thanks for pointing that out.

Thé towel idea is impressive!

I want the modelling material for my daughter who’s trying to make a small water feature with an added Solar fountain. Have tried looking at the ready made ones but the prices are crazy! I think the Hypertufa will do the trick.

petra I have a horrible feeling that, if I tried to do that, it would end up just looking like an old towel soaked in concrete. It does look lovely though.

I will get round to making something like this one day.
It’s made from an old towel and concrete. I love them.
There are lots of other designs.

these look really good

Thanks. Yes, I think this is the material I was thinking of. I thought it came as a ready made modelling material but looks like you have to make it yourself, which is fine as it’s probably cheaper that way. Thanks again.

It sounds like you might be thinking of hypertufa. It’s a lightweight, porous material that’s great for making your own planters and troughs using a mold. Hypertufa is made from a mix of cement, peat moss, and perlite or sand, and it sets fairly hard while still being light enough to move around easily. It’s also durable and has a nice, rustic look that blends well in gardens. You can easily find recipes online, and it’s a fun DIY project if you’re into gardening and crafting!

It is called Hypertufa. Here is a site with info.

Hi, does anyone know of a modelling material that can be used to make your own troughs or planters using a mould? I’m sure I saw someone on a gardening programme some time ago using it but can’t remember what it was called. It sets hard and I think it’s quite light. Thanks.
