What channel is it on please?

Oh no, missed it. I am a huge fan of semi-wild gardening, a mix of roses and perennials that take it in turn to flower from April until November (a bit short due to altitude and climate) - with a bit of Chelsea chopping to help. Will try and get it on catch up.

BBC Two .
The presenter has such tender memories of his father - a TV gardener .

Colin Stafford Johnson (wild gardener presenter) is my 2nd cousin and his father was my godfather! He has done a lot of wildlife filmmaking, particularly tigers in India, but more recently some wildlife and nature programmes in Ireland.

Farmor - you must have some interesting memories of them .

I remember so well Colin's father, Barney Johnson. He did a TV program on gardening back in the 1970's when I had my first garden.

I actually only met Colin once, but would have met his father, Barney, more often. Unfortunately he died young, in 1979. Interestingly, gardening must run in the family. My mother was a very keen gardener, as was her father - Barney's uncle.
When Barney was first commissioned by Irish TV to present a gardening programme, they suggested that his double-barrelled name, Stafford Johnson, sounded too "posh" for viewers, so he changed it to the simple Johnson. However, the rest of his family, continued to use the original name.

Did he only do the one series of the wild gardener? I would love a place like that to retreat to.

Presumably on catch-up?
7.00 am is a bit early 🙂

How interesting, Farmor15

Oh yes, I know who Colin Stafford-Johnson is now, we followed his lovely programmes about the Irish wild coast and others.

Someone mentioned this series recently ( I can’t find the thread, though) and I’ve just put it on catchup. I realise who he is as I loved his Wild Ireland series and watched it several times. He also did a series of programmes years ago about an India tiger and I recently followed another tiger from the same reserve on Facebook. There’s something so relaxing about the way he presents his programmes. Thanks to whoever recommended it.
