Gloves for moving brambles

My ‘no cry’ long leather gauntlets have lasted me well through 5 seasons now of fighting brambles growing in inappropriate places. They are currently helping me tame a very overgrown pyracantha. I bought them from Amazon, about £20, and would recommend them to anyone.

I find Briars lined leather gardening gloves are good for brambles etc.

You need leather gauntlets. The pair I have are great. I look like I'm tackling nuclear waste when I go after the brambles but the gloves are great. I've numerous brambles under hedges that I just can't get under so it's a constant battle to keep them under control. There's plenty of choice ranging from £16-£50, they are a good investment if it's an ongoing problem.

Cheap rigger gloves from garden centre or Asda of very expensive deerskin ones.

Not only thick leather but the type that goes up your arms a bit - gauntlet type! The wretched brambles will find any bit of uncovered skin they can.

I think it might originate in my next door neighbours garden but it seems to prefer growing on our side.

You need a pair of 'work' gloves with thick leather or leather type palms, gardening gloves are generally no use at all.

Any DIY place, builders merchants or old fashioned hardware store should stock them.

If you find them too thick for manipulating secateurs just wear one on the hand you're going to grasp the bramble stem with.

If you can see where the bramble is coming from I'd make every effort to dig it out. Cutting it back each year just gives it a nice pruning, which will invigorate it, I'm afraid.
