I would just strim the edges and sweep the worm casts with a stiff brush. It will look much tidier but without too much hassle.

I have to disagree with you Abitbarmy (Fabulous.😎 name! by the way!). Please don't strim this time of year, particularly around piles of leaves or under hedges because many creatures are starting
to hibernate now & they mustn't be disturbed or worst of all mamed or killed! Please be careful, tidyness isn't everything. 🤔

We cut our lawns all year long unless it is particularly wet. We are luck that we have well draining soil. Sometimes we wait until the afternoon to mow once it has dried a little.

I understand grass grows in temperatures above 11 degrees. So due to a warm Autumn it has still been growing until the past week or so.

My son is still cutting people's lawns.

Thanks, Ilovedogs22. It's true, somebody once told me that grass should not be cut too short for the winter as it is more likely to be damaged by frost.
Also, after paying all summer to have it cut, it's quite nice when the payments can stop for the winter months.

It needs to be fairly dry or will just make a mess. It also needs to be done when frosty weather is unlikely for a couple of weeks or the roots will not survive. It also needs to be cut on a higher level than usual. With all this wet weather the biggest issue is the amount of moss that is already there cos it will be much worse by Spring.

I’d been cutting it every week then in October maybe 10 days apart it looked fine two weeks ago but in the last 10 days it’s just gone mad with the warm weather and rain. I’ve still not mowed as it’s just too wet.

We always make sure we cut it in time so it does not get too long at this time of year, that it the key.

Have you been away for some time?

I don't cut mine after October. I think it likes being slightly long through the winter.

My grass is so long and I normally don’t cut it this late but it really needs it. It’s pretty wet and I’m not sure wether to try and cut it. Would you?

The lovely man who cuts our lawns came on Friday but that was before the weekend storm. As we get loads of leaves on our lawn not ours, from the neighbours' trees, we were pleased they were done.
Can you wait for a couple of dry, breezy days? If we get any, that is.

I cut mine whenever it gets so long it’s hard to clear up behind the dogs. I have a rotary Hayter mower and can set it quite high.

Local block of flats have a company come in regularly to keep the grounds tidy. It's been raining the last two occasions they've been in, but they've cut the grass on their inappropriate, heavy ride-on mower anyway. Now the grass looks awful and much is dying

I have cut the grass occasionally in the winter months but only when there is that rare day when there is plenty of sunshine and a good breeze to dry the grass sufficiently first.

I often do mine if it's dry enough as it helps clear up the many leaves we get. I did it on Christmas Eve a few years ago.

I did mine last weekend …it looked beautiful for about 1/2 an hour then the leaves from the sycamore started dropping on it….oh well….

My grass needs cutting but not a hope of it being done for another 4 months. May not be raining, but with the overnight dew and frost will never be dry enough.

I read somewhere recently that there are really no rules for when to cut the grass, you can cut it as long as it is growing. Even a place as small as the UK has totally different temperatures and weather in different parts, so November may be snowy and freezing in places but sunny and warmer in others, where the grass continues to grow.

My back lawn stays wet almost forever as it gets no sun anymore so I strim it if it gets too long, just taking the top off, as the lawnmower can't handle it.

I remember once mowing my grass in December and hoping the neighbours didn't think I was mad.
It was fairly dry and was okay after.
Go for it.

We have always done a 'last cut' in November, for as long as I can remember, and we've been married 63 years. Cumbria, but only 230ft above sea level.

Yes, you can cut it without doing any damage, as long as frost isn’t predicted for a few days after you’ve done it. Ours had continued to grow, so my son cut it last week when we had a couple of nice days, and it’s looking good.

I would love to cut my lawns once more to tidy them up but they are way too wet and the mower would just churn them up and leave a mess. If they dry enough then I'll be out there!

I have just cut my grass hopefully for the last time. It is looking great all leaves sucked up as well Also put outdoor Christmas lights out all ready for switch on in December. Although really chilly the sun is out, sky is blue it was great to get out there.👩‍🌾🎄

Depends - if it gets dryer AND you aren't likely to get a hard frost soon, then it will benefit from a trim. I'm south coast and we often cut grass into November... But in 'harsher' weather places it is too late to cut without harming.

Thanks everyone if this week stays dry then I will cut it but the worm casts are numerous and wet at the moment so I’ll leave and see.

My DH cuts the grass in November, but only if it is dry enough, which it’s not at the moment. In fact he’ll cut the grass anytime of year if he feels like it, in December or whenever, but I’m sure he does it because he likes getting out into the garden and it gives him an excuse.
