Hi,
I have been looking for plants that bloom when the garden has not much colour, i.e. from December to end of January, any ideas?
My Daphne is not yet out and I was hoping the Clematis Freckless would bloom during these two months but have now read otherwise.

My Winter pansies have been cheerful through all the weather we have had of late. I keep deadheading them and they keep on cheering me up. The wallflowers in the same pots are beginning to bud up now. Some cyclamen are doing well under a big shrub. There are the points of bulbs poking up everywhere too.

On the more permanent front a Winter jasmine brightens the front garden with its cheerful yellow flowers, a sarcocca smells delicious by the front door and a Winter flowering honeysuckle (a shrub, not a climber) is in flower attracting the huge bumble bees that visit on sunny days even when the temperature is below zero.

I am in Bedfordshire and my garden is sheltered from the strong winds.

My viburnum bondnantense Dawn has been flowering since before Christmas as has my clematis’Jingle Bells’.
The winter flowering Hellebore Niger is just about to flower. Also winter flowering heathers are colourful.

We have a lovely winter jasmine always a splash of colour in January, which started off well but it didn't seem to like the reecent very cold weather.

Cyclamen are still flowering valiantly, a bright splash of colour, but they are quite tiny plants.

My Hellebores flowered in November and are still in flower, despite being covered in snow!

Mine haven't flowered yet.

Primroses have been in bloom since October.

I have had an azalea which was beginning to bloom - maybe a dozen flowers fully open. The frost has stopped that!
I don't know if it is now "over".

Hellebores outside, mainly and Christmas Cactus for indoors.

Cyclamen Coum is such a pretty delicate little flower, but you need quite a few to make an impact.

M0nica

Primroses have been in bloom since October.

Oh, and primroses too.
Only the yellow ones seem to survive.

My Hellebores are fantastic and provide delicate splashes of white , pink and green in the garden .
The wonderful thing about Hellebores - they self hybridise producing new combinations .
My Japonica and Camellia are in bud .
No sign of Cyclamen Coum . I planted some in my neighbour's tubs and they are doing well , but mine - planted out haven't.
Viburnum Bodnantense is on my list .

The cyclamen in my hanging basket have flowered consistently through December and are in bloom still.

Thanks all.
This afternoon I did notice a nice yellow jasmine which looked great but, unless it is a clematis I have no more room for shrubs or trees.
Another query;
I have a lot of Hellebores but their leaves keep going black, does anyone else have this problem?

My Mahonia is finally in flower - yellow racemes brightening up the border. The Hellebores haven't flowered yet, never really see them until February.

We planted lots of cyclamen outside our window two years ago. The red ones have done really well - the frost has made them droop now, I don't know if they will come back when it thaws. The white ones just die off - planted a second lot last October along with some more red ones but there's hardly a white one to be seen again now 🥺

Some cyclamen are perennial, others are not.
