Gorgeous day and lots done :)

Been hot and sunny and continued doing some of the early spring weeding, tidying and pruning. And then the fun began- mixing the composted horse and cow manure my neighbour brought me last autumn, with one of my many compost bins- Hard work, but ready to spread on borders and all around fruit trees in orchard, and veg plot. So satisfying.

Lots of noise as our two resident kestrels arrived on their nesting tree in the Church grounds- so happy to be both returned safe. Lots of celebratory dancing and singing... and noisy copulating. Can't wait to watch the antics of the young in a few months time. Had to come in for a rest and to cool off.

And what a great feeling of achievement after recent dreary weather! It looks like being another nice day today too.

I also find being outside in the garden really satisfying and uplifting; there is just one small vegetable growing area left that needs preparing - French beans in there this year.

Sunshine - fresh air - exercise....... doesn't get much better than that!

It really feels like spring has arrived in our garden. Primroses, muscari and daffodils galore, blackbirds splashing in the bird bath and the sun warm enough to feel on my back whilst I've been sweeping the paths.

I have a handful of seed packets here full of promise.

I have been clearing the garden all week finally started my seed trays. I have got to give it a break after the last trays my back is suffering. It's hard work but gardening is one of my life's pleasures.

I really miss the bird life that I had in my old garden. I spent Sunday morning sieving the compost from my garden bin- very satisfying then yesterday filling the bean trench with vegetable peelings mixed with home made compost on the allotment.

March winds are very cold and everything is dry so fingers crossed for some warmish rain at the weekend (but not too much)

Another gorgeous day. Got the old wooden pig trough in place, DH having made lots of drainage holes first, fill bottom with broken crocks and stones- and then filled to half with the last of the one compost bin I started to empty, and some of the well rotted manure my farmer friend brought me last year.

Back breaking and my bad knee is not happy- but it is so satisfying. Birds are chirping everywhere, and the red kits are circling above the field as another farmer is tilling the ground.
Makes me happy.

Merlotgran, I feel for you. I have to say (and that day will come, as DH is in his 80th year and me my 75th)- I just can't imagine living without a garden and birdlife, the bats and owls at night and all the rest of it.

April is the growing month - the garden becomes unrecognisable from the beginning to the end of the month, and I can see new growth beginning to emerge. I’ve planted out lettuce and cauliflowers from an early greenhouse sowing. I’ve sown under cloches, carrots, beetroot, spring onions and cut and come again salad. Nothing moving yet. I need to plant some new plants bit by bit. I also have gladioli and galtonias to plant.

All go😊

I have been on my hands and knees doing my annual pilgrimage up the front drive demossing and weeding the block paving - it’s a long driveway and I haven’t finished but another hour or so tomorrow should see it done.

Last year I left it until later in the year and roasted, so good to get it done and dusted now.
Happy gardening!

A bit cloudy and cooler today, and rain forecast for tomorrow. So I keep going for today- and when the sun comes back, Spring should really be well established. All the border perennials are pushing their heads through and have been crowned with own-made compost mixed with well rotted manure- and it will all be watered in next few days. Bring it on.

It always feels we are over winter ( at last!) when the gardens are full of spring flowers.

Your wild life sounds wonderful Claremont.. We had one glorious hot, sunny day last Thursday and since then it's been cold.. I'm waiting til the end of April to get my new veg and herb bed started.. It's warming up under a black cover at the moment..

I did a wash load but didn’t hang in the garden as rain was forecast, so it’s indoors, but no sign of ☔️

Hasn’t rained so washing would have dried outside, but still nowhere near dry indoors.

I am envious of your wildlife.

I love getting things done in the garden. A nice sunny day and I always feel motivated.
