Peaches

My son has a peach tree in his front garden, planted by the previous owners. They’ve had a half a dozen or so peaches each summer until this year when it was absolutely laden. The ancient apple tree is laden with fruit and another tree which they had assumed was just an ornamental tree this year has produced a massive crop of damsons!

When I was growing up our neighbours had a peach tree in the garden, they used to pass a basket of peaches over the fence. My mother used to bottle them.

I wish we'd planted one here.

Used to have a peach tree laden with fruit but sadly it died a few years back and the stock has grown a wild plum laden with sour green fruit. There is nothing like peaches picked off your own tree. Bought ones can’t compare. Lucky you. Enjoy.

My parents have an apricot tree, which in the twenty+ years they have had it has never produced more than two or three fruit a year, but this year it’s laden. Not quite ripe yet though, so we need a bit more sun.

Peaches don't grow in my area, but I had the loveliest of ripe peaches from Okanagan valley a few weeks ago. I had forgotten how sweet and tasty they are when right off the tree.

And Michelleblane, I had forgotten about greengage plums, I haven't had one since I was a child. We do have some yellow plums that grow in BC (I think they are a Japanese variety), but you don't see them very often in stores. I don't think they store and ship very well, so they are not really available commercially. Too bad, since they are delicious.

We had a terrible cold and damp spring and summer, but for some reason I got a bumper crop of red huckleberries on my wild plant in my front garden. I didn't plant it there, it just grew and we left it. I have 8 cups of berries in the freezer, plus I left some for the birds. In case you don't have them, they are similar to blueberries, but smaller and bright red.

I dont have peaches, but my 2 cherry trees were laden this year. so much more than usual, and we have 3 greengage trees that usually have a few fruit but again, this year the crop is unbelievable. We have a grape trailing over our front porch and windows which usually ripens around October, but this year we should be eating them soon. Not bad for the frozen North (Northumberland) Hope your peaches are delicious.
