My gardener and I...

Some lovely gardens. I cannot post mine at moment as I’m away from home. I am the gardener and DH mows and cuts hedges. I hate leaving my garden in the summer months. I will post pics when I’m home

My garden is on a steep slope which is difficult to stand upright on, even with spiked shoes. I have given up mowing and pay a local man to strim the grass once a fortnight. Since developing Rheumatoid Arthritis I find coming down the steps tricky, so use a hiking stick to help balance. At the moment I can still manage hedges and shrubs with the help of cordless trimmers, but would prefer to just concentrate on the patio pots which cover a larger area every year!

That looks so pretty - but a bit of a climbing challenge!

And the pot garden at the front ... I hate the gravel and the pots hide it!

I’ve had some help over the last few years, however, this year I’ve got a gardener in to do the big clear up in the late spring this year. He’s worked about 17 hours over several weeks to get my garden cleared of winter debris and cutting back of shrubs etc. I’ve got him booked to come every 4/5 weeks to keep on top of the weeding/ cutting back shrubs after flowering/ putting down bark etc. going forward. I’ve got landscapers in also presently. My garden is mainly on a slope. I cannot walk on slopes or uneven ground now. I’ve got them to take away a barked area and the grass on the slope. They’re terracing it to make it accessible and safer for me. The joys of getting older. I really miss being able to do all this work. I still love my large garden however it has to be as low maintenance as possible going forward.

I have a large garden (a third of an acre.) Almost half of it is on a steep slope, which has a lot of shrubs and self seeded trees growing on it.
It's basically left to do it's thing.
The rest is a small orchard a couple of flower beds and lawns.
I hate gardening, wish I didn't, but I do.
Since my husband died, I have a gardener come once a fortnight to keep it all under control.

I do have a lot of wildlife visiting which is a bonus. I once had a swarm of bees take up residence in the extractor fan in my bathroom. The beekeeper who came to collect them, admired my semi wild garden and commented that it was a b****y wonderful garden for bees,

I love Lantana, they last and last and last.

Rhodadendron are lovely now,

My beautiful peonies are now finished, the wind and rain has finally blown most of the petals away.

Lantana grow well in sunny gardens, here.

Wild flowers amongst rocks and stumps.

Simple pleasures - cottage rose right next to my open French windows where I sit just coming out - lasts into the autumn if I dead head it. 🙂

Beautiful pink roses against the wall.

I married a gardener, I didnt realize at the time, it's not something you take much notice of at first. I do all the hard work of course but she does all the planting and detail work and has introduced peonies and more herbaceous plants.

I'm loving the garden - keep them coming!

Some beautiful gardens! I'm loving looking at them. Mine is currently needing that gardener back, but she has hurt her arm,

and yes easybee its rapidly going madly wild this year as in all at once following the cold spell. Not quite like the photo atm.

And next doors brambles coming up under the fence. I'm hoping a couple of youngsters I know who like all things green but live in a rented shared house would like to earn a bob or two just for the brambles and similar large scale invasions

I would prefer a simpler planting now, same general shape, as atm I dont want too many pots on top of the attention needed on some of the beds all need watering.

I get help with mine. I couldn't manage without. It's huge but fairly easy.
The self seeded silver birch I let grow 45 years ago is now taller than the house.
I've had it's branches thinned but it's hard to see through it.

Lovely petra! Your pots look lightweight. I have had to change to black plastic as I can't lift ceramic ones any more. Once the plants get going they can't be seen anyway if grouped.
