Blinking Passwords

We are not supposed to use the same password for everything, are we? Don't ask me why not. So I have quite a long list, written down, on a piece of paper inside my diary. I'm scared of losing it!
How do you remember all your passwords? My mind goes blank.
An ordinary word is not enough now-we're expected to include a number, an upper case letter, a punctuation mark oh, it's all too much.
How can we manage this, it's the bane of my life.

I use the same password for most things but doctor it slightly if upper case characters or numbers have to be included. I have a little book with all usernames written down because I can never remember them......apart from this one, of course. grin wine

Here's one way. Pick a word that you know you can remember easily. Use the same word as a base each time, but one time use the letters to the right instead, another time, those above to the right, another those above to the left............etc. I expect you are getting the picture!

You only have to remember one word, and the hint for yourself that you write down for each password - preferably somewhere a bit safer than your diary! - is "below R" (or whatever). Only you know the root word, which you can keep in your head - that is why it needs to be something very memorable to you that you are not likely to forget, because that is the one thing you do not write anywhere.

merlot, I use the same method - I keep telling myself I should type out my list because the little notebook is getting tatty and a bit of one page has torn off...confused

I have two main passwords that I use for most things, sometimes with, sometimes without an accompanying number. The exception is Asda, I forgot my password, and continue to use the complicated mix of letters and numbers they gave me, I know it off by heart now.

mishap if you look very closely you will see that thst is all too often how my typing turns out anyway! I prefer to try a combination of words with random capital letters or numbers. Which reminds me of the old "blonde" joke about the girl whose password was grumpysleepybashfuldocmickeyminniechicago. When asked why she replied that she had been told she had to have six characters and one capital.

The man at the computer repair shop laughed out loud when I told him my password (for getting into the computer). It was damncouncil (that was before you had to have a mix of letters and numbers and characters and goodness knows what else ...)
