Just watching a documentary about Vickers Armstrong, Broughton factory, who built Wellington bombers.
Fascinating program about Building the Wellington bomber and their attempt to build one in under 48 hours. The bomber was constructed in 23 hours and 50 minutes, and took off 24 hours and 48 minutes after the first parts of the airframe had been laid down, beating the previous record of 48 hours set by an American factory.
The role of women was very interesting, do we have any Gners that worked there ?
As an engineer I love the Wellington, the geodetic construction was so elegant, light, strong and able to take damage without effecting the integrity of the aircraft.
