I heard it this morning on the news and remember eagerly waiting for the programme and listening to hear who was No 1, sad

And me. I still have some of the top 40 shows that I recorded off the radio.

For a long time, I also had my recordings of Top of the Pops, half drowned out by the sound of the family budgie chattering away and of my dad's knife and fork scraping on his plate - he used to work quite late, and, although he hated TOTP, would eat off a tray in the lounge, fuming because he wanted to watch Tomorrow's World on the other channel.

Happy memories smile

Me too . I escaped to my room and played the top 20 as loud as I dare. It was exciting waiting to see what would be number one!

We used to tape top of the pops too. The whole programme, DJ waffle and all. We played them incessantly! It drove my parents mad.

Yes, and very stressful it was!

The Radio One Top 40 is moving to a Friday night

This brought back memories of Sunday evening in my room with a radio cassette player trying desperately to press the right buttons at the right time so that I taped my favourite tunes and not the DJ.
