I was wondering about Scotland and found this:

"Requests for information from the 1939 National Identity Register can be made to:

enclosing a fee of £13 and evidence of the death of the person who is the subject of the enquiry."

But, that was 2010. anyone find any more?

I thought if I re-joined fmp I would be able to look at these records as part of the package, but I think you have to pay extra

Why isn't there a discount if you are on fmp?

Maybe it will get cheaper?
But I want it NOW!

Actually you can get a lot of probable info before thinking of paying.
And rule out some households from the numbers of people.

I have a list of all the Littles still in Newton-le-Willows in 1939, which is very interesting and at least one person lived a lot longer than I thought!

How to do things badly.....

My next door neighbour is a voluntary assistant in the local family history group and she told me the census transcriptions were farmed out to India for cost reasons. They obviously don't have the local knowledge of someone brought up in the UK. It's no wonder there are such wild mis-transcriptions that we have to try and deal with now.

Yes, there are always strange transcriptions which make it difficult to trace people!

Have now found grandparents Andrew and Adelaide ( mistrans as 'Adelanda'!) Little and my uncle, but of course not the address - I may have to get this one as I know they moved in 1940.....

Actually I have just got enough on somebody to add to his file, without paying anything. Dr Leslie Bold, who I remember, was a distant relation of my mother's, she wrote - and I don't know WHAT relation! It's bugging me.

I now know roughly where he was in 1939.............this doesn't help much, but if I keep adding to the file I may eventually find out......

So I didn't purchase the credits.

I am not going to bother until the price falls.

This is why I have never used ScotlandsPeople.

I can find my grandfather and grandmother - nowhere!
But my uncle Maurice is there, with two others, right area, pretty definite......have his parents been mistranscribed then?

I looked for an address of a house my grandparents owned, my father was born in and I was born in , 2015 my grandparents great granddaughter lives there ,seems there is no such house !

I went on this morning to see who lived at a house we saw last year which I recognised from visiting my grandparents there as a child.
I got a list of occupants and their occupations. My grandmother did 'unpaid domestic duties' why not housewife? perhaps because the house was in her son's name. Actually it would apply to parts of my life too- very realistic.
You don't get a lot for £6.

And I have seven possible records for my grandfather......

After the release of the 1921 census this 1939 is the only record untill 1951, the 1931 was destroyed and there was no 1941 census because of the war.

I can understand the rule about about needing a death certificate.

However, there are some people in our family it has been impossible to find track of after the 1911 census and I was hoping this could give a breakthrough.
But you could look at a household and pay £6.95 and find it is the wrong one - several times!

I don't know if one has to join to access the records, I received an email , I do pay a subscription .

Costs - £6.95 per household or £24.95 for a five household bundle.

If anyone in the household was born after 1915 then a death certificate is required because of the 100 year rule

With all the hoops connected to the legal aspects of releasing this bit of information I wonder why the government are bothering. Or maybe the extra income from death certs etc was considered useful? Nah, too cynical even for me!
