London Cabbies

Does anyone have any experience/advice about researching London cab drivers - both the Hansom (horse, not necessarily driver) and the motor cab - please? I've a family line that had cab drivers from the mid-1800s through to WW2 and I've drawn a blank trying to research them through their occupation. I know they needed licences even in Victorian times so there ought to be some traces...
