Memories

I was 13 and somewhat saddened that the President of the USA had been shot – murder being a terrible thing – but otherwise I was unaffected. My parents were shocked, I think, but not reduced to tears. I remember the assassinations of Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King much more clearly but, by that time, I had begun to take an interest in politics. I also remember when Ronald Reagan "forgot to duck, Nancy".

I was 12 and watching TV I think. Ive got the feeling that it was Bonanza as I was a bit miffed that they interrupted the show to tell us. ?

I was sitting in the kitchen listening to the radio, I ran through the dining room to the sitting room ,it hadn't been announced on the tv, I just flung myself st my father sobbing, then it came on the tv , my father held me, my mother held my younger sisters , we then prayed

I was in the Lower Sixth and had stayed behind at school to rehearse a play. One of the staff told us that Kennedy had been shot and of course we were all very shocked and upset.

I was 12 and don't remember it at all

I was 15 and I remember my mum coming into the living room to tell me. I was really worried that it would cause a war.
I can see in my mind, as clear as anything, my darling mum standing in the door way talking to me.

We hadn`t been married very long, David was at his brass band practice, and I was washing by hand (no machine for 3 more years), and draping the dripping washing over a clothes horse in front of the fire.

I was 6 and remember my mum crying and my dad trying to explain what had happened. I didn't understand why she was so upset. Dad told mum to pull herself together because she upsetting me and my little sister.

I was 10 and at home after school. I was making a papier-mâché saucer. I cannot remember why I was doing that! It was my sister's 13th birthday.

I was 15 and decided to skip Guides that evening to listen to my newly-bought Beatles LP. Was horrified by the news on tv and yes I too found the closeups of Jackie very disturbing.

I was at home looking after our very new baby son, he was just a couple of weeks old, so whenever his birthday comes, that is nearly always in the background. I think I was too shocked to cry.

In my first year of teaching, sharing a house with two friends; we were watching a pretty poor sitcom which was interrupted by a newsflash, telling us the dreadful news. We couldn't believe how tasteless it was that they then continued with the advertised programme. I can remember exactly where in the room my chair was!

I was at secondary school and I was doing my homework huddled over a little fire in my cold bedroom.

It was a Friday. I was working and I lived in a bed sitter with my landlady living downstairs. I didn't have a TV and she called me down and we watched the news together, both crying. Kennedy was hugely popular. The sight of Jackie in her pink suit with blood stains was shocking. Everyone was stunned; couldn't believe it.

I was in bed asleep. My Dad came and woke me up to tell me. I didn't really understand what he was saying. I just think that he wanted to tell someone. It was obviously a very serious thing.

I would have been at primary school don't have any particular memory of that, however I clearly remember Bobby Kennedy being shot, I was on my way home by train from secondary school and saw the newspaper headline - knew that my mum would be very sad she really liked him

I was probably at school although I don't remember specifically.
