Hi, I'm a first time, single Grandmother to lovely 14month old twins who are now both toddling.
I look after them twice a week and it is becoming more challenging for me to keep up as they are so active and are starting to be competitive with each other now.
I would love some useful tips from others with twin experience please!

Lovely lovely girls when how lovely to see them thriving after a tiny start!

My now 21 year old nephew was only 1lb12oz when he was born so know haw thrilling it is to see the development!

I've just uploaded a couple of photos of Polly and Alice, taken yesterday. Alice, who was only 2 lbs at birth, is now a lovely chubby baby like her sister - she weighs 1.1/2 lbs more, and is the taller child smile

when mum said my brother always used to kick me black and blue under the covers of our twin pram he was a porker compared to me I was 4lb born and he was 7lb 2oz mind you he is still a big pudding now and I would gladly kick him in the shins if I could get away with it blush

Yes, it does feel special having twins in the family - the novelty of having two or more babies helps to counter all the dashing about!

My little grandaughters, now 6 months old but were born 10 weeks early, have started rolling over and holding hands with each other today. Lots of shrieks of laughter when they realised what they could do. Fabulous! smile

When my mum had my brother and I she thought all her family was complete she then went on to have three more girls, but none of them where twins like my brother and I.
Welcome to GN babciaanna your son's partner must have been glad to have had them arrive with weights like that !!! So much to look forward to in the future.flowers

I don't know about you but I can't help feeling very special, being a grandma to twins. I do think it is a very special 'club'. Twins don't run on my side but on my son's partners side. Lovely to have one of each I think - get it over in one go! Must go to bed as work tomorrow.

Hi babciaanna from one twinny grandmother to another! Nice to meet you. I have 2 sets of twin grandchildren - boys and girls - and am mother to twin daughters. You must be longing to get over there and see the babies (what great birth weights). Look forward to chatting to you some more smile

Hi I'm a new grandma to twins, a boy and a girl born on Boxing Day 2011, Jensen and Lydia, both weighing nearly 7lb! I haven't been able to meet them yet because my son, his partner and babies are living in the US. My son is studying at Yale and mum is a US citizen. I 'speak' to them every Sunday on Skype but miss not being able to hold them. My son comes home to the UK in July when his student visa expires, then will go back to the US to eventually marry his partner and I am guessing, to settle in the US. I hope to get over there for the wedding!

Fabulous Carol they are delightful. sunshine

They've already sussed out that daddy is completely daft! He manages a Sunday league football team, and in the middle of leaping around and telling his players to get their backsides in gear, he runs to the perimeter of the field to goo! gah! and make silly faces at his watching babies. His players love it - they take endless mickey out of him!

They've been weighed today Annobel. Alice, who was the smallest at 2 lbs when born, has overtaken Polly this week. 9,13 and 9, 11. They're coming on in leaps and bounds. smile

I'm putting a new photo on my profile. It's my twin daughters with their children - twin boys 3.1/2 years and twin girls 4.1/2 months. I've been waiting for a photo of them altogether and they've managed it at last, this afternoon. Lovely! smile

Maureen I had twins naturally, and there were none already in the family, then both my twin daughters had IVF and were lucky for it to not only succeed first time, but for both to have twins. We are so lucky x

MaureenM Fri 02-Mar-12 22:56:33

I love your pictures of your grandchildren Carol - how amazing to have so many twins in your family. There was no history of twins in my family when I had mine, but two cousins followed me and had twins too. I would still have been surprised if I had twin grandchildren though. You sound so proud of yours.

Carol Fri 02-Mar-12 06:33:42

My SIL, who manages a Sunday football team and supports Manchester United, has treated his twin daughters 4 and 1/2 months old, to United babygros. He is so proud of his girlies, and has had a photo taken of them all together in their football colours. My daughter couldn't hold the camera still for laughing. I'll post the photo on my profile. I can see these girls are going to have their own Sunday league girls' team by the time they are 5.

Thanks Carol. I am just off to collect my 5 year old grandaughter from school and my OH is off to collect her 5 year old cousin from a different school. We are meeting up with them both in the park so that they can play together. They will have a lovely surprise as they didn't know they are both coming to us for tea.

I can sense your delight in your lovely grandchildren Maureen. Isn't it fabulous to have these babies in our lives, amongst the other children and grandchildren? I love it when my lot turn up and the house is filled with laughter and everyone talking over each other, like they did when we were all at home together. They turn the place upside down, and I will find toy cars, remote controls, ornaments, books and colouring pencils in the most unlikely places days after they have been. When they all go back to their respective homes, I love the tranquility, too!

I am the mother of twins girls and they have baby daughters 2 months apart in age. When they bring them to visit it is like seeing and experiencing them all over again, as they both look and behave like their mums did. Suprisingly they are both second children and their older brother and sister are both completely different in all ways. I also had a son 21 months after the girls and when they all arrive at the same time, with six grandchildren, I feel the same buzz as I did when looking after the three of them when they were small.
I have a cupboard full of toys, books, jigsaws, games, colouring books, etc. so that they are never bored when they visit. I also have nursery rhyme songs that we sing and dance to. It can all be packed away when they are gone, but I want it to be fun when they are here.
