OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES

We had a bit of a party at New Year and our two 4yo DGC did their 'party pieces' to rousing applause. Not to be outdone 2 yo DGD, who can't really sing yet [and is only begining to speak fluently] decided to perform some ballet for us and duly twirled, jumped and posed very vigourously. When she finished, we applauded. Up she jumped - took two bows - and blowing kisses said clearly, 'I thank you, I thank you'.

We were all astonished as no-one can think where she picked this up.

Someone early on in this thread mentioned labels as a child's name for plasters and it jogged a jolly memory from when my D was about 3. She was in the bath and I noticed that she was fiddling about with herself "down below." Like a good liberal parent I decided to ignore this, until she said "Mummy?" - "Yes dear" - "There's a label down here!"
OH and I spent an interesting few minutes debating what the label might say!

Another D was in her pushchair aged about 2 and I was wheeling her across the wide expanse of a cathedral close when an exceedingly large lady hove into view and I could see my D eying her with curiosity. I braced myself, hoping that she would not drop too much of a clanger. She said "Mummy, why has that lady got no knees?"!!!!

Had to revive this thread after laughing at my 3 year old grandson's antics yesterday, Harry Potter was on the TV so he went in the kitchen and brought in the broom, running around the sitting room with it between his legs, knocking everything flying as he ran around. My daughter told him to put it back and said she would make an imaginary one for him, proceeding to pretend to get a branch and attach twigs to it. He ran off with 'it' then came back a few minutes later with the broom from the kitchen. 'Why don't you use your imaginary broom' said my patient daughter. 'It's broke' he shrugged!

I like the child who saw his great grannie's false teeth soaking in a glass of water and muttered "The Tooth Fairy will never believe this".

My eldest grandson (now 17) was always the one who had to say something embarrasing in a very loud voice - such as "that lady has her baby in a wheelbarrow" the first time he saw a three wheel pushchair, or "that man has a mouse on a lead" when he saw his first chihuahua(not sure of spelling).
He also was convinced that all grannies had eyes in the back of their heads and would lift up my hair to try to find them. He even asked his nursery school teacher how to find them. (I'd told him to stop doing something when he was in the back of the car and of course he didn't realise I'd seen him in the mirror).

It's not quite what my grandsons say, but what they do. They are 4yrs and 2yrs and the elder one started to run around shouting 'I am bebe' (they live in Luxembourg and his creche was in French) shaking his fists in the air. Then he tried it without any clothes on. The 2yr old took up the chant and nudity so they now both run around saying 'We are bebes' and sometimes 'We are bad bebes'. My daughter is helpless with laughter. I look forward to seeing this when they come to stay with me in August!!!

Had a lovely one last night. I asked my GS who he would like to read to him. He thought for a while and said " I think Grumps, (his grandad) as it would be a treat for him" Lucky old grumps!!!

Walking home from school in the snow last Winter, my Gd who was 5 walked on hard packed ice with fresh snow on top. It made a cracking noise as she walked and she said "Daddy I can hear my trods"!

Grumpyoldwoman. Had a good giggle at that.

My three year old grandaughter asked my mum (her great grandma)
"grandma, why have you got horrible blue lines going up and down your legs?"
"they are my veins sweetheart" came the reply.

"Uuuuugh I hope I dont get veins when I'm an old lady".

I looked after my 8 yr old GD and 6 yr old GS yesterday as Mummy had to go somewhere. I picked them up from their home in a small Borders town and drove 13 miles into our nearest town ( only small but heaving with cars and people).
''Nana why is K so full of Traffic and people ??'' asked GS
''Thats because there is a big Dog Show on at the (argricultural showground)''
''Oh can you take us to the Dog Show''
''I would sweetheart but I need to get home to Pops as I can't leave him for very long''
(pause)
'Well will you take us when Pops dies ????''

My grandson told his Mummy that my beans on toast were better than hers. When she asked him if he knew why that was, he said it was probably because I had had more practice.
Personally, I put it down to the fact that we use Cross and Blackwell beans and she buys Asda value!!!

My grandsons favourite shop is Toys are Rust.

At age four DD2 had a cold. She woke up, went to the loo, washed her hands and then went to get dressed. Later she came down to breakfast and said: "I don't know where my cold's gone. I usually have it in the morning. It must have gone down the plug-hole."

My daughter and her two little girls were having a discussion about twins the other day. During the course of the conversation my daughter said, "Do you know the name for three babies born on the same day?" Erin (4 years old) jumped up and down and shouted, "I know, I know. It's Twiglets."

When my daughter was nearly 5 she came home from school one winter's day and explained that she'd been given 'grussel's snouts' for lunch. The tale went around the family until one day a few weeks later my brother in law was on the radio, retelling the same story, but substituting his son's name - and he won a prize for the funniest children's saying!!

My little 2 year old granddaughter who I see quite regularly stayed the night a little while ago. Whilst I was still asleep my husband brought her into our bed before we got up. Suddenly I felt that her face was very close to mine which of course was devoid of my usual makeup and my hair was no doubt sticking up all over the place, I was poked almost in the eye as she turned to her grandad and whispered: 'What's that?'

When our grandchildren were younger, they always seemed to come round when my husband was pottering in his shed. This happened so often they thought he lived there and so called it 'grandad's house'. I asked them, if that was where grandma also lived. 'Oh no' came the reply. 'You live in the BIG house'. They obviously know who's the real boss

My 2 1/2 year old gs doesn't speak a lot but it is all there waiting to come out. I was rather surprised last week when I sneezed and his little voice said 'Bless you'

my GD calls plasters labels (long story) one day after she woke up from her nap grandpa told her grandma had had to go and see greatgran (my mother) because she had had a fall GD asked " has she (me) gone to put a label on her?"

He he he.... my grandaughter was singing to Hannah Montanna and I started to sing along.... Her face told it all.... she looked shocked and said ...." nanny you cant sing to Hannah Montanna your TO OLD !!" I just didnt know how to reply to that !

My grandchildren have loads of pets (too many in my opinion, but I know my place) and they are used to the "oh no not more animals, your house is like a zoo" reaction they get from me when they announce a new hamster or whatever.

the other day I took the 3 grandchildren home and my 3 year old grandaughter (who normally does anything to keep me there as long as possible) asked me when I was leaving. I was a little suprised (upset even) until the 4 year old piped up "its okay grandma we dont really want you to go home but daddy said that if we told you that we have a new pet lizard you would go crazy, and we really can't wait to play with it ".

Aren't they just wonderful .The things they say !! My 3yr old granddaughter invited me to her house to see her new tooth brush !!!
