i am in a local choir and we have been practising for our two christmas concerts (tonight and tomorrow night) for several weeks. One of the christmas songs we will be singing has the words "sleep baby sleep, sleep till morning light" as my new grandchild is 9 weeks old I sing that sentence with great meaning hoping my wish will come true for my daughters sake!

I hope your concerts go well Woody and how lovely to welcome a new baby. thanks Don't we all hope that all we wish for all our daughters (and sons) will come true? Happy Christmas.

DD keeps reminding DGS that when the "baby awakes"..."little Lord Jesus, NO CRYING HE MAKES" (wishful thinking) - but how many hymns are Victorian propaganda e.g. "Christian children all must be, mild, obedient, good as he" -we wish!

I think a new baby brings the idea of an afterlife into focus; they are part of us and a new beginning; what a wonderful way for life to continue, in a tiny person. No wonder the Christmas story works!
