Thanks for your replies. They have been very useful and have given me food for thought. In all probability I will get another car seat.

My 4 yr old GS is not v big for his age and should stay in car seat. I agree - keep em in a car seat until they bust out of em.

I do think that 4 years is to young to use a booster seat there is not a lot of protection a good car seat will last until 6/7yrs and be much safer.I agree with harrigran re the Recaro Monza they are a good buy and much safer than bog standard boosters.

We have two seats for older children, Recaro Monza, both are isofix and are more comfortable than bog standard boosters. Head rest inflates for more protection too. Small boosters do not give side protection.

Unless he is too big for car seat I would stick with that as still gives more protection. We have one for older GC (6) that is a booster but has easily detachable back for when she gets really big! Just gives better protection for head in any collision.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I haven't been on the site for a while.

We have a car seat for our youngest grandson and our oldest is now four and can use a booster seat which we need to purchase.

Has anyone any recommendations for a particular one or any that should be avoided?
