Grannies are the ones who knit, show you how to cook, say 'when your daddy/mummy' was a little girl, a warm cuddle, a soft lap. Grandads make you laugh, take you fishing, lark about when driving you somewhere, give you a bristley kiss, sit in the loo for hours, help with homework. This was my grandparents. In between travels we lived with them, these were the happiest days of my childhood, I loved them both dearly but I adored my grandfather. My 3 year old GD loves both her grannies very much but has a special soft spot for her maternal grandad. Her paternal one lives in Florida so only knows him as 'Grandad America', he is missing so much as we now have another darling little grandaughter.
