Sleeping grandchild

I do agree jingl - though we have gone through several years of divorced children, angry/upset spouses and littlies in the middle - but here we are on the other side! I intend to enjoy and not waste a moment - they will be teenagers soon enough and I know I won't be so cool then ... X

Why did this thread die a death?

We should not be made to feel guilty for celebrating our grandkids - as in the original post. I really feel my two were tailor made for me! They bring me so much laughter and fun. Of course, I'm sorry for grandparents who may not be as lucky. But, hey! We can't dwell on misery all the time.

So sad to read your post chrcol - that must be so hard for you . Both of my children are divorced and each have a daughter. Luckily we still get on with our ex-d-i-l, so access to our grand-daughter is no problem - and our daughter lives close by and requires lots of help. We appreciate how lucky we are

Tegan - I look at photos from the last 20 years and wonder where the grandbabies went. Then I remind myself that they're still here and, in different ways, still need us. Just so glad to have them and I hope I let them know it.

Someone once said on the telly [or did I read it in a book perhaps?] that one of her happiest memories was of one morning when her children got into bed with her. They'd washed their hair [presumably the night before] and she could smell the shampoo on their hair. The window was open and a breeze was blowing through the room. For some reason that stuck in my mind and I often thought of it at times when I was with my children. My son would fall asleep easily but I always sat in bed with my daughter reading and chatting. Loved it at night when they were both alseep and I knew they were safely tucked up in bed. Where does the time go....

Most of the posts on this thread are awfully sad, jingl - why on earth would your GSs be howling with laughter?

Anyone got a granddaughter going spare?

I have just read some of the posts on here out to my two grandsons. Shrieks Howls of laughter, with the ten year old wrapping his legs around my neck, with the clear intention of throttling me.

I remember seeing a programme about children from broken homes where they interviewed children who were now grown up. When they started to explain how upset they had been most of their parents were appalled as they thought their children had been coping very well and were quite happy with the situation.

How awful for you chrcol! My heart goes out to you and your DGD. It seems very hard on your DGD too! People seem to forget children's feelings and needs when there are family feuds.

chrcol. When my DGD was small and stayed overnight here, DH would get up an sort breakfast and DGD would pop her head around the bedroom door and then climb into bed with me. She would tell me all about school and her life and her little worries.

Chocolate that is so sad my heart bleeds for you. I have 2 6 yr old granddaughters who are on holiday with their aunt and parents? She sent me a photo of them cuddling down in bed with her and I really miss them but will see them again in middle Sep. I do hope things get sorted and you see her again soon.

Jogging girl I agree there is nothing like a cuddle in bed with a grandchild? M my one granddaughter wraps her legs all round mine puts her feet on my feet arm round neck and off to sleep! It's been really hot sometimes with wound around me but who cares if she's comfortable!

That's so true Jogginggirl, and its something I miss terribly since my son won't allow me to see my dgd now.
I have had constant contact with her for eight years and due to unfair and untrue accusations by her other granny, both she and I are broken hearted. She did email me recently and said 'I don't think daddy understands how much I miss you.
