You can use the shortcut button for the emoji on the mobile site. Try it when using your tablet. There are three circles below the space for your message. I never use the desktop site now.

And why is this under Grandparenting confused

The people who have been on for a long time are obviously used to using them so it would be difficult for them/us to stop. You don't have to use them if you don't want to!

"I still find DH and DC a bit cringey "

SINJMT (So it's not just me then.)

That's my favouriteAna I don't use it on here actually but I do with my DD and DGC just to shock them. They didn't realise I used such languagegrin

The ones for relatives are essential I think and we all get used to them very quickly. However, I there is a tendency for some members to get carried away and use acronyms for obscure things, maybe work related phrases or jargon, which not everyone is familiar with. I get a bit irritated with these TBH (and yes, I did use that one deliberately - I think everyone knows what it means smile)

I agree, you do get used to using them. I still find DH and DC a bit cringey (what if they're not that dear to you? confused) but I suppose it would be too confusing without the D!

Most people very quickly get used to abbreviations - in most cases it's obvious what they mean.

Do you really expect everyone to type Mother-in-Law half a dozen times in a post when MIL will do!

And I didn't get the name wrong deliberately!

I agree with [reikinana]. It completely ruins some threads for me. I also don't like having to put in brackets etc for names and emoji. It's not so bad on a proper keyboard, but a pain with a tablet. And I wish people's names would always start with a capital letter, then they would be easier to read not in bold. Maybe this should be on the Pedants thread!

Have you checkout the list at the top of the page?
I find them useful, they preserve a degree of anonymity by reminds viewers GN the need for names and some of them I find quite amusing.
I have always liked this one in general use
TLA = three letter acronym!!

Am I the only one who finds the constant use of acronyms irritating? I have just tried to read a thread of 100 posts and gave up. There were so many acronyms that I had not a clue what they meant. I could work some of them out but others left me behind.
