Rollergran and Irma Congratulations. You will see little things that remind you of your own children and no other tiny little being will fill you with as much joy as your new grandchild. xxx

I have one grandson he is everything to me if I feel down just one of his cuddles or a smile is just what I need. Being g a Nana is simply the best you have more to e than you did with your own. I was very close to my Nana so wanted the same with my grandchildren. So enjoy it all just bite your tonge if you think they are not doing something right.

Being a grandma is the most amazing thing. You will be surprised at the strength of love you feel for your grandchild. Things do change eg baby on back whereas we always put on tummy, so I always double check how they are doing it! Sometimes I make suggestions but I do judge the time to do it. The hardest part was when I was worried about my youngest grandsons head shape... I deliberated for months whether to say anything to my daughter in law (would not have been a concern with my daughters!) as, although we get on brilliantly I was worried that it would be a step too far. But I did the right thing and although she was upset she had him checked by a paediatrician and fortunately all was well. She was grateful to me. My advice is to enjoy absolutely every moment of grandparent hood...it is wonderful!

When GS came along, I was advised by my best friend - then also a nearly new gran -to "keep an eye on your tongue to see how much of it you've had to bite!" Go with the flow, Rollergran; it's a learning curve for all involved!

I can't help wondering why any one needs to be "prepared" for what gender the child may be unless there are genetic health issues. In any event you still just get the baby you are given boy or girl.

Why does it matter to have to signal the child's gender in the colour of the baby equipment. Mind you if you have to buy everything in a different colour because No 2 is the other sex it will keep the manufacturers happy. My DD and Sil chose not to find out. They ended up with two lovely little boys.

Thanks everyone!
Its a boy. he is also small and extra scans.
Im being told what not to do already as well.!
I know I was touchy with people and particular about 'my way' (too precious looking back on it) and it looks like shes the same. I need to be careful not to tread on anyones toes!

Hoping all goes well for you all.First time grandma here.DD had her little girl last week and after some anxiety due to several extra scans as baby deemed small for dates and growth rate slowing all happily is well, and she's gorgeous.Neither her or her partner wanted to know in advance what they were having, wanted a surprise and having lost a baby last year just wanted everything to be OK.I worried more through her pregnancy than any of my own !So wishing you all the best Rollergran .

How wonderful Rollergran

Being a gran/ nan IMO is the most wonderful gift in the world. It's hard work, there are tears, laughs, exhaustion and I wouldn't change a thing. Roll on October.

Congratulations Rollergran. I hope all goes well. Does your DD know what sex the baby is? My DD didn't want to know for her first. The next three, she found out about and was prepared.
Happy and exciting times our ahead.
