A few days ago my wee grandson said
“Back in the olden days when I was at nursery.”
He’s 8 but obviously feeling his age already. My husband and I just couldn’t stop laughing. Any one else have grandchildren who say amusing things?

My nephew, all grown up now, was about 3 when a neighbor asked him what he was going to be when he grew up - ‘a man’ he said, puzzled that neighbour needed to ask!

Conversation in the car with my then 3 year old grandson:
GS - Nana, where's your mummy?
Me - she's dead, darling.
GS - where's your daddy?
Me - he's dead too, sweetheart.
Short pause.
GS -where's your Nana?
Me - she's dead as well.
GS - where's your grandad?
Me (wondering how far this is going to go) - he's dead too.
Long pause while GS processes this, then he says 'Who looks after you, then?'
Got to admit to being a bit teary as I thought 'No-one!'

I can remember when my middle son was about 7 he asked his nan “ What was it like living with the dinosaurs nan?” grin

I was on the bus a couple of days ago with my 5 year old GD and as I opened my handbag, she spotted my white plastic comb and said in a very loud voice "Is that your nit comb Grandma?"!

My eldest grand daughter aged 9yrs consoling her 6yr old sister who was upset, because I was insisting on her wearing a coat to go out in the snow said “Isla you just have to accept that Twinkle (she gave me that name as soon as she could speak) is not an ‘indulgent’ grand mother ?

After watching a very old film my DGS asked me "Did you and Grandad use to be black and white?"

Maggiemaybe Wed 02-Jan-19 15:30:46

Whoops, mine should have said DGS2. DS is actually a grown up (or so he claims!).

FarNorth Wed 02-Jan-19 15:29:16

shock at your GS, Boolya!

Maggiemaybe Wed 02-Jan-19 15:27:31

We’d been to a carvery with the family and I said afterwards that I’d somehow missed the cauliflower cheese (my favourite). DS2 looked at me with concern and said “Didn’t you have a grown up helping you, Nanna?”.

Seeing a flash red sports car one day, I asked my GS if he would like to have a car like that one. "Yes" was the reply, so I went on to ask if he would please take me out for a ride in his new car. The reply....."You'll probably be dead by then'" - gotta love him!
As a child apparently I asked my mother if she wore a crinoline - she was mortified!
After a birthday party one child went home and reported to his mother that 'Mrs Robinson had brass teaspoons'. Mother was mortified again as they were actually silver! (Heaven knows why she brought them out for a child's party)

My DH had a habit of saying "I'm not going to argue" to toddler DS.
One day, as I tried to persuade DS to do something, he exclaimed "Don't arg me!"

We used to live in an old cottage and one day my dgd then aged about 4 screamed that she didn’t want to go up the stairs because of the antelopes.....she was actually referring to the wood lice.

Patti cake 123 ...I know the feeling . My son-in-law is a better cook than me...and my grandkids have no problem telling me and I have no problem hearing it. I’m an adequate cook ...he’s great!

My sweet 6yr old Grandson told me
“Don’t worry about getting old Grandma Because when you do I’m going to look after you “
Just heart melting smile

One little boy I know when told his mummy was expecting, asked her to open her mouth. Rather surprised she did so, whereupon the child said loudly,
"You in there, are you a girl or a boy?"

He was rather put on at not getting an answer.

When my son was little and staying with friends he told me they made him walk on the pretending grass. Later found they had crossed a slightly boggy area.

My DGD and DGS (6 and 3) were discussing "boomy traps" - I said that they were actually called "booby traps" - they did not believe me and looked at me in amazement! "What boobies?!"

My Grandson said on Xmas Day (after opening his presents) .....’this is the best Xmas Day of my whole life!’......Jake aged 4 ????

Hatpev Wed 02-Jan-19 14:10:55

Many years ago when children were allowed out to play in the street, I wrapped my daughter up in a snowsuit and one of those hats that had a scarf attached and sent her out to get some ‘fresh air’. Next time I looked out of the window to check on her she had the hat/scarf off. When I asked why she told me she was getting ‘fresh hair’.

My daughter in law made her first Christmas pudding and said to me she wasn’t sure about it but had bought a backup pudding. On Christmas Day after a few spoonfuls of the (very successful) pudding, her 6 yr old sweetly and politely to her mum “Did you say you had a backup pudding”

My grandson has a predisposition for sweet things as opposed to savoury. I said to his mam the other day, He's got a sweet tooth to which he replied pointing at a bottom tooth. Is this my sweet tooth grandma.

"Did they have electricity when you were a girl, Mummy?"

"You're not old, Granny. 100 is old!"

coast35 Wed 02-Jan-19 13:25:52

Brilliant responses. Aren’t children just a joy.
This was the first time I’d started a post and I am delighted that so many people responded. ?

I know of a little girl who told her Mummy, ' wasn't it clever of you to have me on my birthday ?'

lesley4357 Wed 02-Jan-19 13:23:23

My granddaughter wanted to call her baby brother 'clingfilm'.
