My shy Granddaughter

I’m so glad I went to a girls’ school, and my granddaughter does, too.

She’s always been on the shy side and prefers to avoid as much of the ‘banter/bullying’ that goes on around school. I don’t think for one minute she meant to flirt notanan2, she and her 3 friends keep out of the way by helping staff in the library at lunch times/breaks as the boys wouldn’t be seen there.
I agree about the discipline being lacking in our schools although the school are very quick to investigate any problems reported to them.

In the 50' we had something called discipline-----a word you hear less and less nowadays !

EllanVannin Sat 06-Apr-19 16:00:07

Momof3, what's that supposed to mean ??

Urmstongran Sat 06-Apr-19 14:59:21

Great quick witted retort!
Why ‘shy’ though - sounds ‘sassy’ to me ??
Go girl!

(Or maybe she didnt mean it and doesnt realise how sexualised the female lines in gaming plots are, and just thought it sounded cool?)

notanan2 Sat 06-Apr-19 13:31:08

I agree it was a sassy reply & quick thinking & will have impressed that bunch of boys.

She will prob get MORE attention from them, but maybe she's happy with that?

notanan2 Sat 06-Apr-19 13:28:03

But her reply was flirting back! In quite a racy way! Fine if that was her intention...

tanith Sat 06-Apr-19 13:05:09

I agree it’s probably a chat up line but it was also her way of making clear that at 14 she has no interest in him or any of his mates. She likes her male friends as mates and fellow gamers not as potential boyfriends. Good for her I say.

Gonegirl Sat 06-Apr-19 12:27:33

Yes, I thought that was rather a nice "insult"! grin

Momof3 Sat 06-Apr-19 11:56:16

I’m sure the kids with additional learning needs had a great time at school in the 50’shmm

Maggiemaybe Sat 06-Apr-19 11:51:06

Still a good response, though! grin

Maggiemaybe Sat 06-Apr-19 11:50:34

That’s what I thought, notanan. confused

notanan2 Sat 06-Apr-19 11:47:58

But thats a chat up line not an insult

Gonegirl Sat 06-Apr-19 11:16:52

Wow! Great answer. Respect to your GD tanith.

I was happy at big school from 1951 to 1956 Greyduster as teachers then ruled with a rod of iron and there was always someone " keeping guard " in the playground. It wasn't Borstal, honest !

Greyduster Sat 06-Apr-19 11:03:53

For some they might have been, EllanVannin, but children have always been nasty and cruel. Good for your GD, Tanith for putting him in his place!

EllanVannin Sat 06-Apr-19 10:57:01

That was a great answer from your GD Tanith. Why some school children are so nasty and cruel I don't know, and these are more worrying times than ever they were. Once upon a time they were the happiest days of your life.

At my GDs high school the older boys like to torment everyone, on approaching my GD and her friends one of them said to my GD ‘did it hurt when you fell down from heaven’ smirking to his mates. She quipped back ‘ no but I grazed my knees when I crawled up from hell’. His mates all laughed at him and he slunk off.
I did laugh when she told me, she is a gamer and loves zombie games and films I imagine she’d got the line from one of her games.
