Sparkly, I don't have any experience of this and cannot claim to understand things. The main thing is if your GS is with a nice person and he is happy, thats the main thing. I would just get to know Richard and see how things go. Just support them both as best you can.

I don’t really see where a name matters I have one granddaughter with a name that’s a boys name in this country (not in hers so much) and a grandson with a name that can be boys or girls
Why can’t it be that she’s a girl who just likes the name Richard and is strong enough to call herself what she wants to anyway up to them to sort themselves out

Hmmm, my take on the matter is, as long as your GC happy then what does it matter?
Their happiness is paramount in all aspects of life.
My eldest GD told me something that halted me in my tracks but i said to myself that i want her to be able to come to me, talk to me, share worries with me.

Who knows? It’s a whole new world out there. So long as they are both happy with the relationship isn’t that all that really matters?

If your GS is happy with Richard and they treat him well, that’s the important thing. Make sure you’re using Richard’s right pronouns, don’t make any assumptions about how they or your GS identify, and you should be fine.
