What do your grandkids call you?

Reading the article on here about grandparents names I wonder if anyone else has odd names given by the child that stuck!
My GD spoke early, it was intended I’d be Grandma and her other GM Nanny. But GD decided to call me Munka. I have no idea why or how she came to it! But Munka I am! I like it because it’s her name choice! She knows I’m GM
My other half, not biologically related to her has surname Rabbett and she chose to call him Grampy Rabbit (Peppa Pig to blame there!) he likes that too!
The other GPs are Nanny and Gan Gan!

Some of my GC have lived abroad so they call DH grandpaw and me grandmaw we sound like the Waltons when we are out. They use their other grandparent's Christian names after grandpaw so I presume they use ours. I have heard the odd Old bat and teacher, teacher when making my GS be good. Our English GD calls us granddad and grandma.
Where DH lived grandparents were mud and fad .Thank goodness we missed that one.

No prizes for guessing that before my first name could be pronounced I was Nanna Garra. (Both GMs are nannas; when a distinction has to be made our first names are tacked on.)
OH is Granddad; the other nanna is married to Grandpa.

I am Nanny; DH was Grandad. I said to my GS, now 15, a couple of years ago “Do you think you’d like to shorten it to Nan now you’re getting a bit older?” “Ooh no”, says he “you’ll always be Nanny!”

My daughters MIL was much older than me. When the children were small they didn’t see her often so they called her “ other one Granny” as I was the one they saw the most. ( her choice she wasn’t very interested in them)

I’m Granny. When they were small they couldn’t say it and I was Raggy ( still have a mug with this on!) Now they can pronounce better I am Granny but used to rather like Raggy

Gransey! My DDIL saw it on Mumsnet and chose it as she went into labour with my first grandchild. Almost 6 years and 2 further grandchildren later I’m still happy with it, just a bit different.

Nanny and Nandad

As we were still living in France when our two DGDs were born, the obvious choice was Grandmère and Grandpère.

Nan, or another version of it, just for silliness' sake. smile

Nanna or Nanny depending on which child is speaking to me! DH ranges from Grampy to Grumpy to Paw! GGS calls us Nanna/Grampy and then first names. FIL is Opa to two and just first name to the rest.

Oma as we were living in Germany at the time and everyone congratulating us said we were now Oma and Opa..so it stuck!

I’m Granny and the other GM is GrannyName. My daughter once told her son (aged about 6 at the time) that Granny was coming to visit and he asked her if it was GrannyName or Granny With the Rules. ??

His response on being told it was the latter (me) was to punch the air and say “Yessss”! ?

Soroptimum Fri 10-Jun-22 12:26:49

GagaJo Fri 10-Jun-22 12:22:40

I was going to be granny, which is what both my grandmothers were to me. But my DGS had other ideas. I'm Gaga. He's not wrong.

Kateykrunch Fri 10-Jun-22 11:47:07

I am Nanna to the youngest, Nan to the 16 year old and FBI interrogator by 1 when I have too many questions such as “what is your new Teachers name” “did you enjoy your lunch”.

crazyH Fri 10-Jun-22 11:29:55

Nana/Nanny

Lyndylou Fri 10-Jun-22 11:25:56

I have always been just Nana to my daughter's son now 14, but he has never met his other grandmother. I am Nana Lynda to my partner's granddaughters and I am supposed to be Nana Lynda to my son's new boy. But as he is only 20 months, it was lovely to hear him call for me the other day saying "Nan"!

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 10-Jun-22 10:57:39

I am Nanna and OH is grandad. The other grandfather died before my granddaughter was born and her other grandmother died when she was three.

Grandmadinosaur Fri 10-Jun-22 10:45:05

We are Grandma and Grandad .
