Mine call me Nana or Nan depending on their age. My 6 yr old Grandson will often refer to me as Nana Window as he remembers talking to me through the window during the covid lockdowns.
Very unoriginally we are known as Grandmar and Grandpar. The extra 'r' is due to AS calling us 'Mar' and 'Par', spelt that way when written in emails etc.
My two youngest grandsons have a speech difficulty (dyspraxia of speech). They couldn't pronounce the gr sound for Granny which their older siblings call me. For years I have been Dandy, but no longer. The speech therapist taught them where to put their tongues to make the gr sound, so now I'm Granny to them all.
I’m Grandma. The other grandmother asked me whether I’d rather be Granny or Grandma. I chose Grandma because I preferred my own Grandma to the one I called Granny, so the other one is Granny.
They call me by my first name just as everyone else does.
It used to be Branny, then GrannyFirstName, but we're a first name family. All my daughters call me by my first name too. And the grandkids call their parents by first names.
It doesn't make a scrap of difference to the relationships ?
I am called Naughty Nanny because I am the only one who tells them off if they are naughty. Grandad is Gan Gan on the rare occasion I am called nanny my name and grandad his name.
Reading the article on here about grandparents names I wonder if anyone else has odd names given by the child that stuck! My GD spoke early, it was intended I’d be Grandma and her other GM Nanny. But GD decided to call me Munka. I have no idea why or how she came to it! But Munka I am! I like it because it’s her name choice! She knows I’m GM My other half, not biologically related to her has surname Rabbett and she chose to call him Grampy Rabbit (Peppa Pig to blame there!) he likes that too! The other GPs are Nanny and Gan Gan!
