Isn't it endearing when grandchildren get words mixed up or mispronounce things? Our granddaughter (8, the other day) is bright, funny, clever, etc., but can't say "Chimpanzee". She calls it Chinzambee grin. We laughed (even though it was her birthday) but she didn't seem to mind.

My son like strangled eggs for breakfast and imilade while reading a mazazine ..we still call them strangled eggs and he'll be 35 at the weekend .
He would also play with his lego as long as he had the constructions which is another one we still use ,much better than ordinary instructions

When my stepdaughter was little, she used to call broccoli brocklee.

One time she asked if I would mind if she brought home a Wuzzkin. It took a bit of time to determine that what she actually meant was a Webkinz. (Webkinz were stuffed animals that had an attached tag with a code. Children could enter the code onto the Webkinz web site and get a digital version of their stuffed animal that they could play with online. Stepdaughter did, in fact, bring home a couple of Webkinz and played with them digitally.)

DD referred to a picture gifted to us as 'Bang-Bang Pete' for penguin Pete.
DGD called it a fosa and she was nearly right, it was a sofa.
DS asked me could we watch 'Steer of Eeches' as he'd seen part of it as he went to the bathroom. Took me some days to work out it was 'Stir of Echoes' with Kevin Bacon.
'Dignosis Murder' & 'Jamwar' (grandma) also from DS.

Two of our families favourites from throughout the years.

Grandson (now 27 !) complication instead of constipation, he informed his mum he wad a bit complicated.....

Eldest daughter ( now ?? ) when she was very much younger and we were running for a bus, she said quite loudly " oh we've pissed the bus" as it disappeared into the distance !

It's surprising how we still use the constipation one, when we are suffering !!

All three have called my husband Purple before learning to say Grumples. One still chooses to call him Purple, which pleased him greatly. Aminals, I'm Danny to one of them still, ellingfant, wilf not wolf, plus we always make sure one of them has a full set of cutlery if we go out having had him boom across the restaurant "I need a f***". We did point out he didn't need it, what he was trying to say was 'Please may I have a ... " Hmmm...

My very much younger sister made us all laugh when she insisted that she put on her bedclo at bedtime. We said a nightie was bedclothes, but for her one item was only a ‘clo’.

My grandson calls chicken fillet strips, "Wobbly Chicken," and chocolate fingers, "Chocolate Sausages."
My grandaughter calls fabric, "faggots" and prawns, "Porns."
They are so cute.

The worst I can think of was my DD shopping with DGC on her 34th birthday. In a crowded supermarket the 2 yr old child was saying Mummy is dirty hoar, Mummy is dirty hoar over and over lolol

DD now 40, aged 3, singing Silent Night:
Round yon fir tree mother and child
Holy infant so tender and wild

DS now 39, aged 7, referring to his collection of dinosaur figures:
Why are they all called Madinchinnas?
... all Made in China

Shirls52000 Thu 06-Oct-22 23:17:12

Lellow for Yellow was my oldest most difficult word.

Deedaa Thu 06-Oct-22 22:18:21

My grandsons have all seemed to be remarkably articulate but one of my daughter's stumbling blocks was hospital which she always pronounced hostible. 47 years later we still call it the hostible.

Snowbell Thu 06-Oct-22 22:11:59

2 yo GS loved Boobies (blueberries) ! And Hygiene fan (ice cream van)!!

"1/2 a pound of what would you like", when my brother did not know what to call scales, the actions of tipping sideways from side to side went with it.
