I would like to introduce my grandchildren to the pleasure of board games.
Not sure which to choose.
The children are girls ages four and two and a half.
I would prefer not to have physical plastic games,as my son in law says he has enough pink plastic already.
Any suggestions please?

I would go for orchard games too. Tummy ache is a big favourite and is always requested when our grandchildren come.
For the 2 year old i would still go for play doh which is another of my grandchildren’s long term favourites.

Yet another vote for Orchard my grandsons love their games .we do too .
We have had lots of fun playing these games especially tummy ache and shopping trolley .old Macdonald to name a few

Another thing with Orchard, is that their games pack away neatly and don't take much room.

Another yea for Orchard. They are educational and good for learning whilst being fun.

Lots of Ravensburger work for a 2 year old if you help them.
Ours still play our old Macdonald Tummy Ache and like picture dominoes till they are good at counting. Spears did one called "Chick and Eggs".
Lots of these don't actually have boards but do help you practice turn-taking.

Recently we have been buying Djeco games and they are lovely!

These are all great ideas! I have a granddaughter turning 3 in Jan. Also another granddaughter who WAS 7 in November. Any thoughts on games for 7 year olds? Thanks!!

It’s not exactly a board game, but I just ordered this from Wicked Uncle, for a Gdd who’ll be 3 in early January. Two pluses are a) no plastic, and b) no bits to get lost (a major consideration in their house!). . And elder siblings can play it with her.

These are all great ideas! Can anyone suggest a board game for a 7 year old?

My elder Gdcs (6 and 7) like good old Snakes and Ladders. Gds (6) would love a dinosaur version, but I have yet to see one.

Sushi Go! now has a bigger (expanded) version Sushi Go Party. My grandson likes the original but the Party version has great reviews.

Have a look at "Board Game Geek" or "Dice Tower" websites. They have 100s of game reviews.

My family like "Ticket to Ride - Europe" which is played by all of us including my 8 year old grandson.

Carcassonne has lots of versions and advertises as 7+ . All the family play this one too... It's a great option as it "grows" as a game as you understand tactics.

Labyrinth (the junior version) is popular with three grandchildren. I like the adult version too.

Here's a link to an independent game shop who have been going for years.
It should take you to their 7+ games section.
If you want to know anything they are usually very helpful...

Just wondered about "Whoowasit" - another Ravensburger. Probably suit 6-7 and a co-operative game too.

I bought this (Outfoxed) in the spring for my Son's young family.
His board game savvy 4 year old enjoys it (with a little help).
Her older brother who doesn't really "do" board games (age 8) has played it and enjoyed it.
Another co-operative game.

I'd also take a look at the Kinderspiel awards and similar:

"Spotty Dog" is very good for toddlers and up to about 6/7 years old

It's made by "Oechard" and they make a lot of good games and jigsaws for this age group

Hungry Hippo but it gets very noisy! The little ones love it though.

As far as I'm concerned, some of the best educational board games for kids are coloring books. And those that teach the child to observe and compare. I have been using this resource wunderkiddy.com/materials for several years, my grandchildren really like it, one of the best ways to occupy and entertain them) In addition, everything is simple - downloaded, printed and that's all, a new different coloring book for everyday.

Orchard make a brilliant range of games suitable from 2 - 6/7. By far the best in my view and lots of fun

My dgc loved Ludo from toddlers up to 16.

Orchard games are very good. The favourite is Tummy Ache. Doble our 10 and 5 year old love. Snakes and ladders is a traditional favourite too.

The pizza with numbers was very much appreciated by my son! He enjoys it and I am glad that he is developing his counting skills and logical thinking. Cutting and sticking the pieces together exercises his fine motor skills. Great resource for parents, I recommend it!
