Songs we remembered.

My dad sang Daisy Daisy too, and Darling Clementine, When it's Springtime in the Rockies, Little Boxes and Go to Sleep my Baby.

Tubby the tuba, teddy bears picnic, ernie, the one about the little boy who poked a lion at the zoo.

The oldest songs I remember from my childhood are "Nellie the Elephant" and "A Windmill in Old Amsterdam."

The ten year old boy I look after has been singing Tears for Fears "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" this week, so yesterday we found the original performance on You Tube and watched it on the television.
Then I found a performance from last year and we watched that. Bit of a shock to see how the two singers had aged since 1985, but we agreed the voices were still good!

Thanks,I'm writing them down,ready to sing next week.I remember being very upset when I heard the beginning of the ugly duckling.As the song went on I stopped crying.Funny when you look back eh?

My DGM sang Daisy, Daisy as she did her housework.
When I was small The Teddy Bear’s picnic was my favourite, but I’d have a meltdown at the bit where ‘their mummies and daddies will take them home to bed’ so there was always a race by my parents to switch the wireless(?) off before it got to that bit!

My dad used to sing the old music hall songs to us as kids - Daisy Daisy, Oh oh Antonio, My old man said follow the van, She was a sweet little dickie bird etc. I've sung then to DGD.

AskAlice Yes, you’re right! I think Burl Ives recorded it originally but my dad loved Teddy Johnson & Pearl Carr and he had their version.

I remember my Gran singing “How much is that doggy in the window (I do hope he’s for sale)”and “In your Easter Bonnet with all the flowers upon it”. That would have been early 50s, don’t think I ever sang them to my DDs or DGC though!

AskAlice Little White Bull was the first record I ever owned. It was a 78rpm. I think I was about 10!

The first one I knew was "All the nice girls love a sailor by Anne Shelton. The first I can remember my mother singing was "I'll take you home again Kathleen"'and Twas on the isle of Capri where I met him".

Oh yes ! thanks, more to torture little'n with !! We're hoping he's ok by morning as he's off on a school trip to Windsor Castle. I said he might see a prince or princess or the King(I had to stop myself saying Queen) and quick as a flash he said "yes Nanny King Charles the third". 5yr old brain so much quicker than my 65 yr old one !!

Forty shades of green was another Val Doonican one I remember. Tulips from Amsterdam, I'm a tiger by Lulu. Boom bang a bang also Lulu.

Little White Bull by Tommy Steele. First song I remember singing on the stairs with a red plastic guitar when I was about 3!

On a slightly different note, my oldest daughter was very amused when she arrived at our house to pick up DGD (who was a tiny baby at the time) to find me and DH both singing and rocking her to "Star Man" by David Bowie - it worked, GD went straight off to sleep!!
