Grandson with ADHD

DGS is 15 has ADHD and Disautonoma. He is a perfectly normal sociable biy with lots of friends and outside activities. The disautonomia causes more problems than the ADHD. ADHD is not normalluy associated with socialising problems. It is autism that causes social problems. Does he have that as well? neural diversity is usually multifactorial.

Our grandson who is 15 is now living with us permanently. Both my husband and I are retired and were wondering if there is any benefits we could receive for his upkeep?

Do you have other GC? If so I would suggest you try this one just the same as your other GC.

If not then be led by your DDs advice, but offer her support as well if she is struggling.

Do not interfere with any issues to do with school or any other issues outside your immediate relationships.

He is still your GS and always will be.

I think it’s good that he comes for visits; young people can easily become overwhelmed with social experiences. I think a bit of a push to be independent is important, even if it does cause stress.

I have a nephew struggling with anxiety; they can get help from their doctor, sometimes it is easier before they come of legal age. My sister could not make an appointment on his behalf once he turned 18; he had to do it himself and of course he wouldn’t.

How are things with your grandson now? Our grandson is 25 snd was diagnosed at 16. It has been very challenging over the years snd he is still struggling now. He's unable to work due to anxiety and other issues

Yes he has had an official diagnosis. Yes he’s getting help at school now.

Our teenage son is now at University and has managed to cope with social situations, he spends a lot of time studying and want to go into the Law.

Please don’t worry, be as supportive as he will let you.

They know that they are loved and cherished which is the most important thing.

Read and Google as much as you can.

If it’s an official diagnosis the child is entitled to lots of help with studying, our GS received a laptop to help, also extra time is spent ensuring they can cope and are able to understand the course work,
University also needs to be told they also offer lots of help
