I never thought of it like that, but you're right.
On the other hand, I prefer to be an imaginative artist and go to places in my work that I can only go to in my mind.
When artists were high on artificial stimulants they actually produced extraordinary art by drawing what they believed they were looking at.

Actually I am more impressed by the mother giving her daughter that instruction - and, presumably, also having the paper and pens in her bag, immediately available.

If the mother is not an arist herself, she certainly has all the instincts and training of one.

Better than passing that child her smartphone to while away the time. Well done that mummy!

My daughter is a strong believer in not using technology to pacify her children and they are so good about it. They do get time but it is controlled and the girls are more than happy. They love crafting and have used my slow sewing machine with me to make gifts for mummy. The youngest was 4 when doing this. I love doing things with them. We have made cards pictures from sea glass, aprons seashell creatures and the ideas they come up with are amazing.

Most children with a bit of encouragement & some cheap basic odds & ends and paper, scissors & glue ect, simply love to create art.
You'll never be bored if to learn to enjoy drawing & creating.
It stays with you for life. 😊

In all honesty I get as much pleasure as they do as I always wanted to be a grandma kids love spending time with and they do . I love it. They are getting older and I know times will change as they go on to do what teenagers do but I hope they will have happy memories of times spent with me.

My youngest 2 children could always entertain themselves as long as they had paper and something to draw with. If the weather was miserable, which in Scotland is often, they used to ask to go to an art gallery or museum with their sketchbooks.

Some mums cars were full of sweetie wrappers mine was full of drawings even on the tiniest piece of paper. My eldest DGD takes after her dad and so there is always a pad and colour pencils in my bag.

It’s the simple things that give pleasure in life.

So agree with you Truff43, love every minute with my grandchildren and appreciate how precious it is. Enjoy.
