What decade were your grandparents born?

I have a mental picture of ‘the harvest’. All the 1870s, 80s, 90s and later in little separate boxes. Not sure what good it would do,though.

All mine were born in the 1880s.

Are we being harvested?

I've just worked out that my grandmother, who was born in 1888, must have had my mother when she was 41, in 1919. Well, 40 actually, because her birthday was in October and my mother's was in November. But it must have been a real surprise when my aunt, her fifth child, was born in January 1921. (That aunt just died last October, aged 104).

Children in their 40s was common at that time, girls matured later and families of 10 even 14 was not unusual. In my family history around 1800 12 children were born, my own branch descended from the 7th child Septimus, I often wonder who chose that name.

You might be right BlueBelle - I don’t know really. I was going to start a thread about what age we all became a gran but I’d hate people to think I was doing something underhand so thought not ( though it is quite interesting )

My maternal grandfather 1883. The other three were born in the late 1800s. I think my paternal grandmother was born in 1899.
Both parents born in 1923.

I always assumed a new thread/thread title, whether formulated as a question or not, was designed to stimulate some sort of discussion, spark ideas or invite opinions.
Bland questions like What can you see from your window or What decade were your grandparents born don’t really do this.
Perhaps OP could tell us more about her own grandparents or raise some sort of discussion it might all be a bit more interesting.

My grandparents were all born between 1901 and 1905. My great grandmother was born in 1880 and died in 1971 , a week before my 18th birthday.

3 in 1870s with 1 in 1860s. Goodness, that was a long time ago. Parents born 1904 and 1906.

You can be a Gran at 40 or even earlier but I think most are 60+ on GN, we could all declare our age as some kind of proof.

As a child I remember my GPs as very old, they all died 65-70 yrs, they all smoked to the end so that was hardly surprising, even today lifelong smokers dont live much longer.

DH's father was 60 when DH was born. He said he could remember getting the day off school for the Relief of Mafeking (1900).

Only date I have in my head is 1884 GF birth date lol the others are in the family history folder.
He was youngest boy in the family, his elder brothers all served in the Yeomanry during the Boer War, having experienced the world all migrated to Canada and NZ. Except one who had no children, his wife my great aunt I remember well, very few relatives in the UK from that generation.
