It seems the Rainbow Bridge will have to wait for a bit yet and Grace lives to fight another day.
Yes there is stiffness and some weakness in her right rear leg but her level of mobility is good enough to go on a bit more with daily Metacam plus paracetamol if she seems to be struggling. The vet is not the "fluffy" type, very no nonsense and has tangled with Grace before (but didn't actually LOSE her hand?) so she would be straight with me.
Grace had her claws done which really WAS painful (I hid in the garden counting the yelps and there were at least 15) but as soon as they had done she legged it out of the door with reassuring mobility.
So I am reassured that we are doing the right thing but also fully aware that this can and will happen again and I will be prepared for it. ?
Better go and lay in some stocks of treats. (For me too)

MawB I'm sad for you and Grace, making that inevitable decision is so upsetting. Hopefully the vet can help her, it may be just a flare up.

I'm at the doctors this afternoon to, hopefully, get an itchy skin thingy, looked at and removed ASAP. I keep catching it in my sleep and making it bleed.

Sounds like a brilliant day callgirl. I was terrified of going on the Eye as I don't like heights but loved it. I'd like to go again.

I was wondering about Grace and hoped Maw had been in. I'm also really hoping that Ann did make it away and we will hear that it was a great success when she gets back.

DD3's partner works out a lot at the gym and he also plays 5 a side football after work on Friday. Last Friday he went over on his ankle and, because he is so 'chunky', the swelling was so bad that we all thought he had broken his ankle - thankfully not.

The outfit I took for resale was East too, Galen but I suspect that East is at the bottom end of the market for that particular shop in that particular area. Ooops!

So sorry to hear about Grace MawB, I hope that the vet has some good ideas about treatment.

I`ve been in London all day today, for my treat from daughter 3. We went first to the London Eye, horrendous queues and equally horrendous prices, but hey, we`ll only do it the once! Then we went to the Albert Hall for the Classical Spectacular. It was absolutely brilliant! We could have sat through it again......and again!

Sorry to hear about grace MawB it's horrrible to see a much loved pet go down like that. Our dogs both had serious untreatable issues so in a sense the decisions to say goodbye were made for us by the vet's advice. On reflection I now realise that although very sad at the time it was easier than watching a much older dog gradually decline in health but in other ways be still enjoying life. Thinking of you.
Oh dear soop that legs sounds really sore. I'm glad your man is taking his responsibilities seriously and is looking after you well. Hope it starts to improve soon. Very elegant photo btw.

I'm trying not to get TOO excited, my lovely youngest daughter has been seeing someone for the last few months and it seems to be going well. I've not met him yet, she lives a drive away, but have been told I will do soon - he sounds lovely and they seem to have lots in common. I just want her to be happy and I know she would love to be settled with someone so watch this space!

Dogs, like children can be so up and down!
Took Grace for a gentle 5 minute "toilet" walkie before bedtime and so far she seems much more settled. I wonder if the vet will just try her on a stronger anti-arthritic after all. We shall see what sort of night she has.

maw those of us who have lost out pets know how ou are feeling. Wanting them not to suffer but can't bear the thought of not having them around. Big ((huggs))

I have a return of the cough, not so bad as before and I feel absolutely fine. Plan to ignore it and let it go away . Hope you feel much better soon, galen.

Maw I am so sorry to hear about Grace as I feel that she is almost part of my family. Poor little lady.

soop pleased to hear that your leg is not infected but it is a buggeration if the wound keeps re- opening. It is better to see the GP and maybe he can suggest something else to relieve the pain.

soop I'm sad to hear your leg is causing you trouble still. Better to be safe than sorry , so off to the doctors for you. I have thin skin on the back of one calf and I use manuka honey on a dressing when I have a wound. Heals very quickly .

Funny you should talk about teaching your dog sign language Tricia , when Sam arrived and we started training we used a hand signal for every command . As we have little ones we wanted Sam to be under control even at a distance. Now at the age of 4 we use the hand signals more than the spoken commands. Works a treat ! I'm sure your collie is much smarter than Sam and will pick it up quickly.

As I stroked and tried to calm her last night I was wishing she could just slip away and bottom line, that is what the vet can do.

MawBroon it's so upsetting when they start to show signs of old age. Our dear border collie is 14 too, and has recently become almost stone deaf. Trying to teach her sign language.
Soop - catching up here I had to go back a few pages to see what had happened to your leg - I have had a few similar incidents, very thin skin on my legs and many wounds from gardening accidents etc. I have a stock of hydrocellular dressings, and some Ialuset cream which you can buy online - my doctor prescribed it. Also some very good emollient cream to massage the thin skin on my lower legs and theoretically make it stronger.
The wounds can take a few weeks to heal. Hope yours responds to treatment soon.

Feeling apprehensive and quite sad (something of an understatement)
Grace has had a couple of incidences of the back legs giving out on her so she would slide down on her haunches but be unable up push up herself up again with the back legs. Happened after her bedtime walk last night when I foolishly stopped to have a word with a neighbour and Grace's legs started shaking. Got home OK but then when she was having a drink the power just went out of her back legs and her back end started sinking.
I got her up and gave her lots of Metacam and stroking on her bed but 30 minutes later she went out (actually able to get up and walk ) but the same thing happened again. When she came in. By this time it was 12.30 and I didn't feel I could wake SIL and get him to carry her to the car to take to the emergency vet so I let her sleep on and today she is much better but clearly stiff and shaky. At 14 this is not going to go away so I will get the vet out tomorrow and take their advice.
Not going to contribute any more anywhere else, despite a lovely 2 night visit from DD, SIL and the gorgeous Flynn. ?

Galen Keep your pecker up. You do not suit being out of action. The majority of my garments go to the Red Cross. The shop in Campbeltown is a first class outlet. The volunteers are lovely. The window is dressed frequently and looks inviting. I enjoy donating to that particular cause. If no one is interested in selling the more glam garments, so be it. They can be returned and I shall happily give them to the Red Cross.

It's a lovely sunny afternoon. I'm away to wrap a gift and catch up with the ironing.

Charleyg The wound isn't throbbing and I do not have a temperature. The nurse who dressed the wound couldn't get the skin remained to knit. There are numerous steri-strips under the bandage. I feel that it is trying to heal...but, when I place my weight on the foot, especially after I've been resting it (worse in the middle of the night) the wound opens up again. That pain does give me jip. I shall contact the GP tomorrow.

soop if your leg is so sore, methinks that it is infected so I totally agree as always with MacSorran that you must see your GP tomorrow. It should be getting better and not worse. I do not recollect when he and I were last wrong.

Is your leg throbbing? Do you feel as though you may have a temperature? If I lived closer I would drive you to your GP surgery but I will leave you in the capable hands of MacSporran. Another buggeration to deal with.

So glad to hear that your long-standing cough is almost better. If you had said otherwise, I would have frog-marched taken you back to your GP.
As for gardening, I'm really not up for it. The leg is extremely sore. MacSporran says he'll make an appointment with the GP tomorrow. I already have an appointment with the practice nurse on Wednesday for change of dressing...MacS insists that I do not wait that long. Getting my foot to the ground is a right buggeration.

I hope you feel better Galen. Reading your post made me realise that my cough is mostly better. It started in October!!

I took my best outfit (from a child's wedding, I think) to a shop that sells good quality used clothes. They just laughed!

I've been gardening and would like to place a permanent ban (in my garden at least!) of sycamore seedlings between flag stone and in the garden and also wild garlic which gets every pigging where. My back is killing me so I'm doing to put a chicken in to pot roast with lots of veg and then put my feet up!
