And butter.

thatbags Thu 11-May-17 11:36:11

Someone gave me some kefir. I kept it going for a bit but then used most of it in a cheese sauce. What was left went bad so it got composted.

I didn't think it was anything to rave about, just as yogurt isn't. My ancesters survived for thousands of years without any yogurt so I think I can carry on mostly without it as I have done so far.

Give me whole milk and thick cream for preference any time.

Galen Thu 11-May-17 11:10:10

Love soft goats milk cheese

Greyduster Thu 11-May-17 11:06:22

I should stick to the samphire Galen! Unless you have a taste for anything made from goats milk ?.
Sending soop some cakes for when she makes it back into the kitchen!

I feel rather under the weather today. I think I must have been on my feet in the sun too long yesterday. We are picking both GS and his friend up from school today and taking the to the park. I hope they only require grandad to expend any energy and not me!

Galen Thu 11-May-17 10:51:21

Yoghurt like substance apparently. The youth seem to think we all should be living healthily with things like quinoa ( ugh) and no wine shock and twenty types of veg a day!

annodomini Thu 11-May-17 10:44:42

Galen, perhaps you could enrol Alexa as a member of G'net where she could have her very own jokes thread.

Charleygirl Thu 11-May-17 10:41:41

Excuse the ignorance but what is kefir?

Galen Thu 11-May-17 10:35:30

I've just heard of a 'with it' substance called Kefir!
They say on Cunard they have anything you want. What would happen I wonder if I asked for Kefir and samphire?

Galen Thu 11-May-17 10:28:45

Ok! I have now taken umbrage!
No more Alexa jokes.
Annsixty perhaps your wealthy friend would like to invest in the Kitcheners tasteful bungalow with a lovely AstroTurf football pitch and hot tub?

thatbags Thu 11-May-17 10:20:08

Update from Soop

Openreach is still trying to sort her out (so to speak!). She's hoping to be reconnected today and has sent me with orders for yous to plump up the cushions on the chaise longue and she won't say no to cake and a G&T. She has missed The Kitchen and You Lot very much.

PoshGran Thu 11-May-17 09:00:35

Morning all. In common with several other Kitcheners it seems my week so far has been "bouncy" too.
Onwards & upwards......sunshine is here & due to be warm - pity in a way that I have library commitments!
Hope your days are as you would wish.
smile for everyone - they're infectious!

annsixty Thu 11-May-17 08:27:24

Feel better soon corner it's a beautiful sunny day here so does make me feel a bit better.

MawBroon Thu 11-May-17 08:20:16

Thinking about what you said annsixty I am always conscious that I might risk becoming one of those friends who are draining and find it hard to strike a balance between needing a shoulder to cry moan on and being artificially "Pollyanna" upbeat. I have no sympathy whatsoever for the type of person you describe except to think that she must be a lonely person indeed. Some friends are uplifting and others depressing or irritating, but then I think "what am I being to them?" My late MIL used to saw one should not be a moaning Minnie or people will hide when they see you coming!!
I went to a local nursery with a friend yesterday (for coffee and toasted tea cakes) and we sat in the sun and I felt quite cheerful. I bought 2 baskets of sweet peas and thought, yes, I am doing well. But today has dawned differently. Ah well, ups and downs eh?
Glad you are getting out, it is a survival strategy not to be disparaged!

kittylester Thu 11-May-17 08:17:04

I'm feeling a bit grumpy too corner for no real reason - I just am!! It's called nowty here! Hope you feel better soon. brew

It hits you at any time doesn't it Maw? I sometimes see our last dog out of the corner of my eye and he died about 5 years ago! sad

Ann, we don't need friends like that in our lives do we but they are sometimes difficult to shake. We get all DH's wine from Aldi - mine is Sainsbury's - cos I'm worth it!! grin

cornergran Thu 11-May-17 08:03:42

That rings bells, ann, hard to be happy for people who are both self focused and thoughtless. Not surprised you feel bleak, mawb, lots of hugs from me. It's as well they are virtual hugs as I'm a grumpy soul this morning, full of germs, maybe from Littlest but without laboratory testing can't be sure grin. Loads of admin that really can't be ignored and a need for something in the fridge that I would enjoy eating will propel me on. Will be back when I'm less grumpy.

annsixty Thu 11-May-17 07:20:08

It does indeed MawB it will be some time before you look in that empty spot without a tear.
I am going out for a coffee with a friend this afternoon.
I just know she is going to be more restful and kind than the one I went to visit yesterday in her new retirement apartment,
Why do we put up with people who make us feel worse instead of better?
I actually feel sorry for her as she is widowed and has alienated most of her other friends but should I?
Her latest topic is the fact that she has a six figure sum left after selling her bungalow and buying the flat and all expenses now paid , including all new furniture, that her very wealthy S has made arrangements for his own financial advisor to visit to advise her.

MawBroon Thu 11-May-17 07:04:17

Maybe she has programmed Alexa to post them every day ??
Poor, poor Soop wondering when she will be back, we do miss her!
Feeling a little bleak this morning - life goes on doesn't it?

Charleygirl Thu 11-May-17 06:59:27

I am looking forward to Galen going on her cruise but for the wrong reasons, I will not miss Alexa's grotty jokes!

Galen Thu 11-May-17 00:24:55

I'm always a complete laydee

Galen Thu 11-May-17 00:23:44

Don't go unti.l Friday. I'm sure I will enjoy it.
It's only a quick 7 days.
Vigo
Lisbon
Oporto
Guernsey
Southampton.
The other days are sea days.
Anne next door is coming with me!

annodomini Wed 10-May-17 23:33:14

Have a great time, Galen, I was going to say 'behave yourself' but I know it wouldn't do any good! envy

Swanny Wed 10-May-17 23:17:10

Galen I hope you have a wonderful time. I shall miss Alexa till you get back. I think my favourite 'joke' so far has been 'What did the zero say to the eight? Nice belt!' Brilliant! Happy sailing.

Nelliemoser Wed 10-May-17 22:57:02

Galen have a good cruise. Where are you off too this time.

callgirl1 Wed 10-May-17 22:28:42

I`ve seen pictures of that place many times over the years Anno, but have never been, regretfully, and I used to live in the Greater Manchester area. It looks beautiful.

annodomini Wed 10-May-17 22:24:57

I have clicked the link myself to check and it tells me it isn't available which it was just a few minutes ago.
www.stockport.gov.uk/about-bramall-hall. It has worked this time.
